Research experience or classes before admission

I'm a CCC student transferring to UC Davis for Physics and Computer Science. By the end of the Spring semester I will have completed all of the major pre-reqs, but I have completely neglected the GE requirements so I have 6 classes left and wont be able to transfer next Fall.

I'll be completely done with both the GE and major requirements by the end of 2010, but that will leave a 9 month gap of me doing nothing while I wait for the Fall semester to start up again at Davis.

Is there any way I can be productive during this time and I am concerned about resuming my majors after being inactive for over a year.

So what I am looking for is a way for a CCC student with a TAG application sent in during Fall to take classes at Davis' Spring semester or a method for CCC students to get research experience for graduate admissions.

Are you near Davis? You can get in contact with some of the professors and see if they need any assistants. Going in person and asking is probably the best and it wouldn’t hurt to read up on their latest research. Also, see if any of your CC professors are doing research, I found out some of mine did right as I transferred! Some CC’s even offer internship/research programs over the summer. You could also sit in on some upper division classes if your near any university. Take advantage of your free time!
