Research opportunities for students NOT in STEM?

I’m a high school student interested in pursuing political science and communications, but am still interested in getting research experience. Almost all the opportunities that I see are in the fields of chemistry, biology, medicine, etc. Is there any way for non-STEM high school students to do research in the general field of social studies? If not, are there any internship or volunteering opportunities?

Can you volunteer for a local political candidate?

Science fairs usually have psychology/social sciences category. You may try to contact professors from these fields in your local college to see if they might agree to be your mentors.
