Current students/parents of students at Dartmouth, would you tell me a bit about the science research opportunities at Dartmouth as well as their pre-med track? I'm interested in studying science (probably chemistry) as an undergrad but would also like to do research/study medicine, and since Dartmouth is much smaller, I was wondering if those research opportunities are still present...even outside of Hanover, since it seemed far from urban areas when I visited.

Dartmouth Hitchcock is one of the best hospitals in the country and the amazing thing about Dartmouth is the sheer amount of resources available for pre-meds. Institutionally Dartmouth works exceptionally well for its premeds. You have the Nathan Smith society, all the grants and research available to undergrads, and Dartmouth just founded a $35M center for public health research where the mission is for undergrads, med students, and researchers collaborate. All of this looks great on a med school app and you don’t have the “weeder” mentality you’ll see at JHU or even Columbia. My pre-med friends all went to incredibly good med schools overall - places like Harvard, JHU, WashU, Penn, and Cornell. I can’t imagine a better school to be a pre-med.
