hey how did your interview go, vm?

Eh it was okay. Probably pretty good, but I'm thinkin I needed a spectacular one to get in. Oh well.

Vinayak is so modest.:)

evilasiandictator, a high SAT score won't help me since I don't know what i'm talking about, lol.

lol who's evil asian dictator? You know my name? Observant haha. But I have relatively low chances compared to what my stats may say because there's someone from my school also applying who has really good stats too (RSI alternate).

you're famous :)
if you don't get into harvard, I can't imagine who will

You know who I'm talking about.

of course

^^^^or a sign of an AoPS member.....

haha, I love AoPS
:)

do they look more into ur personal qualities or your achievements??

during my years in another country, i wasn't encountered with the same opportunities as people living in the states. I have a passion in both math and science, but i haven't achieved or done anything during softmore and freshman years.

i have achieved many awards in math during my middle school years, but after i moved and attended another school i didn't do anything. my skills in both science and math have decreased. there was no club, no mathematic contests, no honor classes, and no money to attend summer camps. like i really wanted to attend a camp in jHU and due to price of airplane ticket i couldn't. only things i did was skip levels in math (but no honor nor AP), tutor kids in math, and some other ECs like sports.
After i moved here and learned about those numerous opportunities i started to pick up.
i'm now in many clubs, studying hardcore for math (AMC AIME) and finding a new interest in this field of science.

even i do this i dont think ill achieve any things till 12th grade.
would they consider this?

and even i dont have anything done, would passion i have right now be a good indication. i'm very talented but i'm one of those person not yet showing it as much.

and the recommendation from teacher. i have moved to this place, and not yet teachers here know that i'm very good. i don't have any leadership positions because i was usually younger than most ppl, and i changed schools.
and techers in my other school constantly move around so i'm not sure i'll be able to get a rec from them.

what can i do??? any suggestions??

Well, I'm applying this year too, not thinking I have a great possibility of getting in but I'm still applying and hope they can see my passion and love for research. YOu have to be optimisitc about doing your application and you never know if you have a chance until you apply. About your EC's, you dont necessarily have to be given opportunieis, you can make them for yourself. Like, it is totally possible to start your own club/ organization that does things you really love. About your teachers, I think you should just talk to your current ones or keep in touch with your old ones. Good luck with everything and if you really have the passion you say you have, I'm sure if will sure in the essays.

bigcow, try to work hard on the essays then and show them how passionate about science you are!!! I think your PSAT Math score is sufficient enough to show that you are mathematically proficient.

the curve on the PSAT is so terrible, I hate it.

bigcow,

You are in quite a situation. Basically, you're an international applicant. However, you won't be considered as such since you live here. I say work hard on the essays, speak to teachers more between now and January, and try to dor eally good on the AMC (its after teh deadline, but you can mail them a letter telling them how good you did if you do really good [i.e. 140+]).
