Research Science Institute (RSI) 2014

Should we also send additional transcripts for second marking period and midterm grades?

ahhh I didnā€™t send a postcard with my application, so I have no idea if theyā€™ve received it yetā€¦ @mayee107: do you mind telling us when you sent your application in? Thanks!

@science2015 I sent the postcard on Tuesday, and the postcard was returned to me on Friday. And btw I live around 150 miles away from the CEE address.

Hey,

If the application already has already been sent with two recs, can we send a third at a later time, like a week later?

@mayee107
youā€™re scaring me! I also sent my app on Tuesday, but I havenā€™t yet received my postcard. Then again, I live much farther away than youā€¦

@FierceTiger Iā€™m sure youā€™ll receive it soon!!

By the way, are any of you guys applying to other programs?

@mayee107: thanks! also, Iā€™m applying to a few other camps (also research) just because RSI has such a low low loooowwww acceptance rate. The other camps include HSHSP and YSP.

I got a message from USPS:

Does this mean that USPS will try and redeliver on Monday? And if they donā€™t will, CEE just mark my application as late and throw it away, or will they consider it, since it arrived on time, but no one was there to pick it up? Iā€™m really worried about this, and I would hate to not be eligible for RSI because of a stupid mistake like Saturday delivery.

@science2015, which ysp campus?

@indianboy2400, Iā€™m in exactly the same boat as you. (Even the 9:19 AM time, haha.) Iā€™m pretty sure the application wonā€™t be marked late if itā€™s delivered on Tuesday, since the deadline for receipt is the 21st on the website. Itā€™s just that Iā€™m not sure if USPS will automatically try to redeliver. On the online tracking page, it seems like they want to recipient to file a report for redelivery or visit the post office themselves. However, I called USPS on Saturday and they told me that they would automatically redeliver, soā€¦ Iā€™m hoping that USPS will redeliver tomorrow morning ā€“ if not, Iā€™m planning to contact CEE about it.

@cosmtig I just found out about it today (USPS 800 number is naturally not working, since its the government), and I freaked out. I contacted Ms. Ballestero, and she told me that CEE wouldnā€™t be picking up the applications from the post office, but instead, we had to make sure they redeliver on Tuesday. Did you contact the McLean post office at 1544 Spring Hill Rd, McLean, VA 22102? If you did, and they said they would redeliver, thatā€™s great, because from what I read online, the post office only redelivers when you tell them to, or will send the package back to the sender.

@indianboy2400 Oh. Okay. What. :frowning: No, I called the USPS customer service (the 800 number), and the person I spoke to told me that they would automatically redeliver (even though everything online says otherwise), so Iā€™m not sure. Thereā€™s a page you can fill out to request a redelivery on the USPS website, but apparently only the intended recipient can fill it out. I guess our best bet is to call the post office tomorrow morning at 9 AM? Otherwise, we might just all be screwedā€¦

Edit: Would it be possible for us to ask CEE to request a redelivery? Iā€™m not sure if anyone besides the recipient is allowed to schedule redeliveries.

@cosmtig Iā€™m going to try and call both the post office and the 800 number and double check to see if they will redeliver. Iā€™m not sure if we would be able to ask CEE to request a redelivery, since it would come earliest by Wednesday. If you still have your tracking ID, check that at around 9 and see if the package has been delivered. Did you give them specifics regarding your package, and did they say that only your package would be redelivered, or everyone whose package got a ā€œBusiness Closedā€ message would be redelivered?

@Messifan07: The YSP I was talking about is at UC Davis.

Iā€™m really worried about my application, since I sent it in last week, but since I live far away (California) the app might not have gotten there in time. Is there anyone else who lives pretty far away, and knows if his or her application has gotten there within a week or so?

@indianboy2400 Hopefully that will work! (Expect a really long wait for the 800 number, haha.) I didnā€™t give any specifics; I just asked them about the general situation and if packages would automatically be redelivered if the business was closed on the day of delivery. Itā€™s funny how we wouldnā€™t have this problem if we had mailed it a day later ā€“ then it would have gotten there on Tuesday instead of Saturday :/

@sciencechamp24 that sounds good. But how come I saw a post almost identical to this one by a user named scienceguy48 a few days ago? That member was also a new member whom I cannot seem to find anymore. Iā€™m not trying to be suspicious though.

@mayee107 Yes, for some reason my post was deleted, so I am using my other account. Hopefully that clears it up

@indianboy2400 Hi, so did you end up calling this morning? What happened?

@sciencechamp24 You sound like a MIT faculty member, not a RSI applicant. If you are not selected, no one will be.
