I was just wondering if anyone has conducted serious research without a doctor involved (e.g. you helping the doctor etc.). I'm trying to figure out what I can do research-wise on my own, or if it's even worth it if I can't find a doctor for that purpose. Thoughts/comments?

I just tried nine different doctors, and they all said that you have to be attending that particular college to work with them. Essentially there are more than enough qualified college students to help, and they don't have the time to explain everything to a high school student.

I know a high school senior who conducted research on heart (he graduated two years ago and got into Lehigh/Drexel BA/MD). If you are a rising senior, it will be VERY difficult to get a doctor to work with you unless you have connections. That senior started to look for doctors to work with beginning of his soph year and got to work with him during the summer after his junior year. All research programs in universities are all past due. Doing a medical project will be very difficult, unless you are gonna work with statistics which would require no lab.

Also the problem with working is a doctor is that you get little credit. If you get a doctor to work with you, then you are prob just gonna help the doctor do the project that he is working on, which would mean that you lose all originality. Same thing happened with the senior, but the experience help nonetheless.
