wow this site is a SAVIOR thanks for posting it, its really helpful.

Be careful, though! The site is not entirely accurate. Be especially wary of information about specialty floors, renovations, and television. All of these have been changed since the guide was written.

But, yeah. It's still mighty helpful!

how usual/unusual is it for a freshman honors student to get into an honors brownstone? and how far a walk would u say it was from bay state road to cas? oh! and (lol) which one would u say it better? a bay state brownstone or south campus brownstone?

Yeah that site is old 'cause they have cable now and all those new building and recreation places. I liked the opinions on the dorms from Livejournal.com Especially the ones from the older students on BUnite and the 08 class. I'm hoping for West Halls because I like to run and walk so the distance is no big deal and I NEED some trees and they said it's the best dining hall on campus. Warren seemed really chaotic and I need to focus when I study. I think the Bay Honors Brownstone is really close to CAS, isn't it near where they started us on the tours?South is for upper classroom and far, right?

SOOOO Freshman can pretty much request ANY dorm buildings? So if I wanted to stay in Shelton, I can (if there is room)? Does it cost all the same???

well you can request any dorm, but the chances that you'll get into the better ones, apartment-style, brownstones etc. are significantly miniscule. in fact, you'll most likely go to a giant one like warrens- which i've kind of accepted with a sigh directed at the communal bathrooms which frighten me beyond words.

@canticlenumber9: Oh, don't be silly! I'm sure the toilet gnomes are far more scared of you than you are of them.

LOOOOLLL Nom!!

I really think that people have different bathroom schedules so not everyone will be in there at the same time. Thousands and thousands of college kids deal with it each year, I'm sure we can too.

hmm i'm in com and i think i want to live at west campus...is this a good idea? are there lots of com people in west? is it too far to walk?

It's more convenient to live in Warren if you're in COM, but I know some who live in west. First semester, you'll have a 9:30 class on Tuesdays and Thursdays (COM CO101 - Way of the World), so if you ever oversleep, you could just roll out of bed and walk to Morse Auditorium (right next to COM) in 3 minutes, as opposed to 15.

Okay, I've requested Warren for my #1 choice but I tend to get very irritable if there is constant noise while I try to study---should I request Myles Standish (even though there isn't a big chance?) or something else??

I support Myles Standish Hall all the way. The ONLY good thing about Warren is that it has an awesome cafeteria. Other than that, it is only beneficial to CAS and COM students as far as location. Other than that, yucky @ Warren. Myles is a family. Warren suffers from overcrowding.

Yeah, that's great but not everyone is that lucky.
I think freshman year will be crazy regardless of where we stay.

BUMP for Amy & others. Info on West woven through this, pg. 3, 5, etc.

Some West dorms have magnificant views through huge windows overlooking the city skyline and the river. The 3 West dorms flow onto a shared courtyard with shared cafe type dining hall, there is more green space, trees, flowers, benches and a quick walk to the esplanade for running/hanging out along the river and BU's boathouse area so for many kids that off sets the killer 15 minute walk or 10 min. trolly ride to most classes. (killer when its cold, other wise an OK way to meet peope, wake up to a little exercise)

With BU's brand new Fitness and Rec. Center and Arena near West though some say its becoming more of a campus center than in the past. Like most dorms it is also close to various music venues (alternative, techno, jazz, punk, rock, hip-hop--you name it) right off campus not just concerts at the BU Arena. (this Spring Marron 5, Alicia Keyes, etc.) Good luck.

"how usual/unusual is it for a freshman honors student to get into an honors brownstone? which one would u say it better? a bay state brownstone or south campus brownstone?"

can someone please answer this question from a previous post.. no one has mentioned anything about the south campus! I am a freshman and somehow got into the Core House on Carlton St. Is this good/ bad - what is it like? I am visiting this Wed.. I guess I will find out then!

...Ditto. I'll be living in the Philosophy House on Park Drive. What is South Campus like for a freshman?
