Residence Halls

I'm instate. Are you? I'm on spring break this week so I think I'll make another trip up to Seattle and the UW to check it out one last time before I make my final decision. I just can't get past how huge the place is! It has hundreds of different clubs, the libraries are enormous, and Seattle is a pretty interesting city. I'm kind of worried about not being accepted into my major but the worst that can happen is that I get denied and then I can just transfer someplace else. I live in a tiny town so it should be interesting to go to a school that has more people than my entire county. Mchanon has some pretty cool views too. Hopefully I get a room there.

I'm instate too. I live in Tacoma and I'll hopefully be able to go up to UW for their Husky Experience thing on April 4.

I know what you mean about UW being so big. Wow, where do you live? :-) I think that it would be very interesting going to a school that has more people than your entire county. Will anybody else from your school/town be attending UW? If so, then maybe things won't feel so vast/lonely.

Only 1/2 an hour until the housing application is available. Do you think that if we pick a "special interest housing option" that is only available for McMahon that we'll have a better chance of getting a room there? I hope so, but we'll see. Good luck w/ everything!

Yeah, I read that basically if you select one of those special interest things that you can get into there for sure. But it depends also if you pick your own roomate or let them pick. If you pick your own roommate, and if they don't also select speical interest, then you might not get special interest. Roommates will supercede any preference you put if you want that roommate.

Housing question: When it asks for roommate ID, is that their student ID number or just their name?

Geez, it is going soooo slow...

I was wondering that same thing about the roommate ID. Anybody have any idea?

I'm not sure if I should agree to having a roommate. I wanted to do the whole cluster thing, but that's 8 people you have to find! Do you think that if I only put down 1 or 2 people for a cluster that we'll be able to be in that cluster but w/ some other people too?

Hey, does anybody know if you have to have everyone of the same sex living in one cluster? Can you have co-ed clusters?

I think McMahon is co-ed in the clusters.

Really? Like, you could have guys and girls living in one cluster?

I'm not positive but I think McHanon has same-sex clusters but co-ed floors.

Rovee: I was a little off about my county's population. I checked today and it is about 69,406 it feels like a lot less just because Grays Harbor County is so spread out. I love how some of the libraries are open 24 hours a day! That seems really cool to me for some reason. I did see a homeless looking man sleeping in one of the libraries during the day but it might have just been a poor grad student. What is the Husky Experience day? I was also trying to figure out how to best get into the dorm I wanted! I ended up putting "no prefrence" for a couple of the questions except the smoking, I'm not sure if that was the best way to get into McHanon but we'll find out soon enough. When should we find out about housing assignments? I hope I don't get a drunk or a drug-dealer for a roommate! Their are three people from my high school heading up to the UW next year so I might just room whith them (If I can figure out that ID number thing!)

When someone figures out the ID thing let me know! I was kind of confused about that too. I think it's that seven digit number next to your name when you fill out the application form but once again I'm not quite sure about that either.

On the housing application I went with the preferences...

McCarty

McMahon

Haggett

Terry

Yay for north campus I guess. I'll take bigger, nicer rooms over a better social atomsphere. It helps that they're like actually part of the campus too.

Wonder if I'll even be able to get into any of these as a freshman.

:) I just got back from UW and I must say, it's a beautiful campus! I do wish it wasn't raining all 3 days I was there, but I guess I better get used to it.

On my housing application I picked:

Lander

Terry

McMahon

McCarty

w/ a quiet hall preference

I don't know how the whole ID thing works, but I couldn't set up my mail the other day and today I was able to! (I guess it's because I got in my $200 deposit!) I got my husky card today, which I guess I'm happy about! I keep on pulling it out because I'm in disbelief that I'm actually a husky! :):):)

Hey everyone!

Today has been the strangest day, in a good and bad way. Just when I was getting comfortable with the idea of becoming a Husky (yay dreamkissed!), I received my acceptance letter to Wellesley College w/ an AWESOME financial aid package. I would pay less to go to Wellesley than I would at UW where I am instate. I'm torn because I really like Wellesley and a part of me just wants to go and try something new. However, another part was really liking the idea of being with my friends and having that familiarity.

I'll most likely choose Wellesley, but it still sucks that I'll have to let UW go. Unlike most of the people who consider UW as their ultimate safety, I was really looking forward to attending. Congrats to everyone that has decided to go to UW. You definitely won't regret your decision. Good luck everyone!

You won't regret your decision. I have told my own daughter not to go to the UW simply to be with people she knows. It will be a better experience to open yourself to new horizons without carrying around high school stuff.

Rovee- Congrats :)

Dreamkissed- I'm about 100 or so miles south of Seattle, but this has probably been the wettest weather we've had all winter, I'm guessing it was the same up there too. It does rain alot in western washington, but not as much as you'd think. :)

Yeah the past 2-3 days have been the longest its rained this winter.

Congrats Rovee! :) Wellesley is a GREAT school. I hope you have a really good time there!

Hahaha. I thought it was funny that the rain went from a mere drizzle to downright POURING and then to sunny in less than a half-hour.

Haha, that's Western Washington in a nutshell for you, dreamkissed! It does get annoying though when you are deciding what to wear. :-) Yesterday was so dark and dreary, but today was so sunny that I had to wear my sunglasses.

Thanks Xiddok and dreamkissed! This decision has been tougher than I thought it would be, but I'm confident that I'll be happy at Wellesley.

Isn't it weird guys how the past 2-3 days have been the longest its rained this winter? I mean, I'm not complaining or anything, but I'm just hoping that we don't pay w/ like a really crappy summer. Ooo, and did anybody notice how some of the ski resorts are considering re-opening. I heard Snoqualmie might, but I'm not sure about the others. I really want to get some final runs in on the mountain before I have to leave. However, I heard that at Wellesley, you can learn to snowboard for PE credit. :-)
