Same here. I LOVE Rory Gilmore. Actually, one of my new years resolutions was to become her... kind of. lol.

That being said, I also love Berkeley because of its location and because of their amazing dining hall. :) I'd be fine with just about anything though.

It's actually funny because I was never brought up with the knowledge of Yale; unlike a lot of people Yale wasn't one of those things I just kind of knew about..the first time I'd ever heard of it was on Gilmore girls and then I looked into it further. So I can truly honestly say that I love Yale because of what it has to offer, not because of its name value since that has no validity for me :) I like that I can say that.

And for the record I am Rory Gilmore in just about every way :)
Single mom who's my best friend (she didn't have me when she was 16 though!)
Editor for school newspaper
HUGE bookworm
Same music taste
Emily Gilmore IS my aunt...seriously, the woman has left my mum and me phone messages insisting she won't talk to a machine, if she wanted to do that she'd just talk to her VCR
the list goes on...my friends tease me about this likeness :)

not that I..spend a lot of time on the..uh..Yale website..no..not at all!

but do any current Yalies out there legitimately want to list some pros/cons of each (no bias please, we get that all Yalies are exuberant about their own college!)

I had to do a research project on states and for Connecticut I listed Yale as one of the main attractions or whatever. All I put was that it was one of the Top 5 universities. And I got really frustrated because that was the only "big" thing to write about for Connecticut and I thought that was just so boring because who cares about some stupid academic place called Yale where you have to study and all that?

Then after Gilmore Girls...that all changed! So definitely not going for the name.

Wow..I'm definitely not a Rory Gilmore. I mean I like to read and I used to want to be a writer..and I used to kinda dress like her but no Lorelais/Emilys/Paris in the picture! But haha that was kinda like one of my New Years resolutions..to be as nice as Rory (she's nice to like everyone!) and to read/write more..etc

I think I'm alot more like Lorelai (besides the being pregnant at 16 and running away from home, hating her parents part)

Anyways. Gilmore Girls aside for now.

Any opinions on each of the residential colleges?

(Yeahhh I don't go to the Yale website very often either :) )

lol branford is nice lol. they have a really a pretty courtyard and really nice people. it''s one of better ones. of course, it's no davenport ;)

Architecture is a huge factor in my college decisions (no joke). Architecturally, I love all of the colleges except Stiles and Morse. Favorites are Pierson, Branford, and Saybrook.

Your residential college will be the best, primarily because you will bond with your fellow freshmen in that college, either in your Old Campus Dorm, or in Silliman or TD. That's what it's really about, not the architecture, location, or facilities. You're not going to leave your friends in order to get a more Gothic building.

Well no, Hunt, I'd have to disagree, while yes, the primary focus is the people you're spending time with, your ability to connect may be easily thwarted if you're not pleased with the other aspects of the college (i.e. the architecture, facilities, niceness/size of rooms, etc.) and then the cherry on top are the amazing people.

So I'm going to agree with mistofthekane and say that as for me architecture is a factor, and those three are also my favorites! Without. A. Doubt. :)

But seriously, any Yalies want to give their two-cents? It's really hard to tell what each college is like from their websites (especially since some don't even post pictures)

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't base my entire college decision on how pretty the campus of a given institution is. Otherwise, I'd be dead set on Northwestern!

More recent Yalies can correct me if this has changed, but in the past at least, very, very few people transferred from one residential college to another, and the only reason I can ever remember for it happening was that the transfers had made close friends in another college. Each college has a culture, and you will become part of it immediately.

-Freshman year in Vandy
-Perfect location, next to WLH, Old Campus, Commons, Durfee's/Post office, Central in residential/class areas, surrounds the libraries
-Best dining hall/master
-mascot = thundercock

-con: small, relatively high amount of annexing.

TD is definitely the best. I mean, the other colleges are pretty legit and all, but no college even holds a candle to the TD community. AND we're going to win the Tyng Cup this year for IMs!

Ashe!
