Sorry if this has been asked in the past but I was wondering which residential housing would best be suited for freshmen. I know alot of people say that Warren Towers is ideal but have also heard that Warren Towers, though large and “social,” can be a bit noisy. Can anyone tell me just how noisy Warren Towers is, how much it affects their work, and if there are any other housing options ideal for freshmen? Thanks everyone!

The other places that are predominately freshmen are Towers and West Campus. From what I've heard, Warren is very social, but there are private study rooms, the library, and computer labs where work can be done if its too loud on your floor. I put Warren as my first choice because I like the "community" that each floor on Warren seems to have.

When I went to BU last Friday, I was in Warren...it didn't seem that loud and our tour guide stressed that there were private study rooms that allow NO talking. There are also 24 hour laundry rooms, which may not be relevant, but if you're like me and like to do laundry at 1:30 AM, then it's a plus.

Does the freshman HAVE to stay in the towers (warren and just "the towers") or West Campus....And do freshman EVER get single dorms? I heard the dorms are quite "claustrophobic" at BU.

Most freshman will be placed in Warren, West, or the Towers, but 10% of all other dorms besides the Student Village are reserved for freshman. And if everything fills up, you'll be put into a hotel until a space opens up somewhere. Which is definitely going to happen.

There is an entire thread about this back a few wks ago including the links to the BU Backdoor and livejournal sites where you will get opinions and pictures. Check it out.

Our S is a F at West. It has more of a campus feel, not as "crazy social" as Warren and a long walk to some parts of campus. But the Dining Room is very social and excellent, like a cafe. Really nice setting looking over the playing fields and close to the Student Village and new arena and rec center. The best part of his room is that there is a huge window, it opens, and he has an outstanding view of the Charles River and city skyline. At night its spectacular.
