Residential Program question for current Penn kids

I'm considering applying for a residential program, but i definitely want the typical college experience with partying, a social dorm, and things like that. will a residential program cut me off from the rest of the dorm so i primarily get to know the other people in the program? ive heard that college friends tend to be who you live with. i'm considering the mentors program in the quad in case that makes a difference for the answer

thanks

you won't be cut off unless you confine yourself to that limited group. residential programs are most certainly not cult-like, and moreover, you'll make tons of friends based on your classes and your extracurricular activities.

what if you're thinking of requesting a roommate? how does that factor in? i've heard that doing a residential program helps better your chances at getting into your desired house

well then both apply to the same res program!

so i know people in the same res program live in the same dorm, but do they necessarily live in the same hall/room?

The residential programs are focused around a hall/floor. You'll either live in the same room or same hall with them.

That said, the residential programs are a load of bull. Don't take them too seriously.
