How fast is it? Is it reliable? Is the entire campus wireless? Ext. Please post what you know!

150mbps

wireless sux for gaming, use ethernet

Question:

the download speed of my current internet is 14.13 Mb/s, while the upload speed is 2.99 Mb/s

How is this in comparison to the one at UCSB?

Speakeasy test:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 12266 kbps (1533.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3251 kbps (406.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

On the CNET Bandwidth meter, I got 1265.9 kbps through my ethernet connection. Wifi is markedly slower, and the ResNet wifi doesn’t always work for me. That being said, ResNet has downtime for a minute or two every once in a while.

EDIT: I got 25920 kbps on Speakeasy’s speed test, with 1070 kpbs upload. I don’t know why the difference is so big. I guess it’s the server location.

I have a Macbook, for what it’s worth. Oh, and if you plan on using Skype or something like that, an ethernet cable is definitely worth it.

Most of the campus is wireless… there are some patchy spots (Buchanan, HSSB classrooms, Chemistry auditorium, Girvetz auditorium), and you won’t always have an available wifi connection in your classes (though I guess you wouldn’t need one).

i get 51,921 kbps DL from easy and 15,866 kbps UL (LA server)

51,921 kbps = 50 mbps = 6.3 MB/s = dang fast

So basically, it’s a lot faster than what I have at home?
