How long will it typically take Minnesota to release a decision to a Goldeen Gopher application?
In the past GG’s didn’t get any preference w/r/t timing or admission. OOS GG’s got their application fees waived but you didn’t need a GG application to make that happen - calling Admissions worked as well.
Have they sent out the GG application yet? Are you in-state or out?
I’ve heard of people hearing back as early as October, I wish you luck!
^^ We heard the same thing - those who submit a very strong application before October may get an acceptance as early as that month.
My S applied in late August last year, using GG…had high ACT but bad class rank. He finally got in (CSE) but not until February. Hoping it goes faster with S#2 next year, who’ll be applying for food science.
The Priority Deadline has been changed from 12/15 to 11/1, and everyone will hear one way or the other by the end of January according to the admissions website. So everything’s been moved forward a month to six weeks. According to my daughter’s Tracker message admission decisions will begin in October. If SOP from prior years still holds, then the uncontroversial applications will be decided first and those acceptances will be early on in the admissions cycle. A lot depends on the college of choice - CSE, CBS and CSOM are getting increasingly more difficult to get into (although now that OOS tuition is expected to increase significantly that trend may be tempered somewhat).
My d17 and I attended CSOM’s preview day and the acceptance rate for their Fall 2016 incoming class was 28% (yield 27% which is about the same for the university overall). CSE and CBS will have even lower acceptance rates based on ACT averages and class ranks posted for this year. Honors Program criteria have ticked up a bit for most if not all the colleges. Given all these factors, there may be a LOT of folks waiting for the end of January! But an acceptance at that time means the same thing as an acceptance in October - it means you are in.
Here is the most current academic profile. They have helpfully included new SAT scores as well (concorded using the College Board tables). @s16s18s21s25 I think your S#2 will be applying to CFANS, correct? Given the middle range numbers this year, if his stats are anywhere close to Older Brother’s he’ll be an early admission :D/
@JBStillFlying
Thanks…his stats aren’t even close. Somewhat better GPA/rank, not nearly the ACT, so who knows. I think he has a good shot since food science is not the most popular program.
@s16s18s21s25 you remember the drill from last year probably . . . as long as s18 meets the stats he’s most likely in. BTW, they’ve changed the Priority deadline to Nov. 1 so faster turn-around for everyone. All decisions made by 1/31 this year.
My son received his acceptance envelope via postal mail today. He hadn’t checked online. He applied to CSE/Physics over a month ago, but his school didn’t send transcripts until around 2 weeks ago. He did receive the free OOS GG application fee waiver.
Do they notify you if you got in on the application tracker before sending it in the mail? Or do you receive an acceptance envelope first?
The packet can take a couple of weeks to get to you so the Application Tracker is the fastest way to determine your admission status.
How long after you submit the application do you get the login information for the application tracker?
@soyunchico they should have your assigned ID # (needed in order to login) w/in a week after you submit your application. If you haven’t received an e-mail with instructions by then, give them a call and ask for the information. They’ll be happy to relay it once they can verify who you are.
