Hmmm.....Could a conservative please define separation of church and state? With Bush in office and all these politicians praising Jesus, I am a little confused with that term.

Where do you go to school imh?

Well meateater, I go to school in Maryland. I know I am a little extreme sometimes especially in the right to make personal choices but I'm not really that extreme. You probably disagree with me. Anyway most people in Maryland are like me, so I'm not alone.

In regards to my broad generalizations, I didn't mean to do that. I made my comments in regards to politicians in federal/state/local governments who are putting religion into politics. There are nice conservatives who are respectful of other people. However, I stand by my view that liberals in general are more accepting of other races/cultures.

I know you do, I live in MD, thats why I was asking I promise I'm not gonna stalk you or anything.

Montgomery Country, Potomac

So you go to Churchill or Whitman?

Montgomery County not country

I go to Churchill, Whitman is in Bethesda. How about you?

Yea I know, but somehow some of Potomac falls in the Whitman district. I live in Chevy Chase but I no longer go to school here. Used to go to Landon (meathead central), found the academics less than exhausting so now I go to St. Paul's which is a boarding school in New Hampshire.

Well, most of our state is made up of liberals. How did you become a conservative - kinda rare in this state. What grade are you in?

Always have been, your political affiliation is largely shapaed by your parents so...Also I've always found the reasoning behind conservatism more compelling. Plus, it's fun to be the only conservative in your neighborhood.

Well its kinda hard to voice your opinions in a predominantly liberal state. Any conservative in my school is bound to get verbally attacked by liberals. Well, judging from your school (Landon), I can tell your parents do have money - smart people are normally liberals. I don't mean that as an insult to you though.

dude, you really need to work on not generalizing. Smart people are normally liberals? Like come on, dude, what's that about. I don't find it insulting because it simply isn't true. When the nationwide study comes up showing that liberals have a higher average SAT score I'll believe it. Don't you think your opinion that "smart people are normally liberals" is based on the fact that you are surrounded by liberals all day who try to convey the image of the republican ignorant redneck to you?

Sorry meateater I didn't mean to generalize conservatives. My comment comes from the fact that in the '04 election, the rural states voted for Bush while states with the bulk of the industry and commerce voted for Kerry (i.e. California, Maryland, D.C., New York, New England states voted for Kerry). Another example, if you want a stat, look up the percentage of people with a college education in Montgomery County. It is higher than most other places, plus the average salary is quite high (above 70k). This county is very liberal. Finally my opinion of republicans does not stem from the fact that I live and study with liberals - though we do view republicans as rednecks in my school.

Wow. I thought it was funny how liberals made up I.Q. scores for us mid-western and southern states during the last election... This was to justify their loss... So arrogant and ignorant. People in the midwest are mostly of German blood... There is proof of this, for sure... The German people are and always have been really intelligent. Just because someone from the NE has a higher SAT score than one from SD doesn't meant that that someone is more intelligent... It means his or her parents had money... Sorry, but we haven't been brainwashed yet. :O --- We learn morals and family values before atheistic biology....

Well, you kind of made my point for yourself. You contradicted yourself "My opinion does not stem from my environment, but most people in my school think Republicans are rednecks" Hmm. But anyways, I shall breakdown your arguments anyway. First of all, Maryland is not a major center of commerce, it's essentially 4 empty votes. Second, let me breakdown the reasoning behind Maryland's liberal thinking. Maryland was founded as a state for Catholics, at the time, a form of religious dissension, this dissension has maintained its roots and left Maryland as a state of liberals. Also, outside of PG, Montgomery and Baltimore County, Maryland is predominantly Republican. Urban areas always vote Democrat simply because of their diverse populations and those who desire social change. This is why New York is Democrat, the city essentially is the entire state. California is an anomaly, mainly because it is comprised of people fleeing the more stuffy atmosphere of the east coast, so clearly it is going to vote Democrat. And, to sum up, you can't just pick Montgomery County and say that because it is an area densely populated with college educated people and it is liberal that liberals are smarter. I'm sure that there are counties in VA, Fairfax for one, that have just as many college graduates and are Republican. Rural areas are generally Republican because they are more grounded in conservative ideals and vote on social issues.
Also, if you are Jewish, and I'm assuming that theres a pretty good chance you are since you go to Churchill,(don't take offense, I love Jewish people) and the Jews are generally a progressive group who have always voted Democrat because they are by nature an underrepresented group in the country simply because this country was founded on Christian ideals.

Knowledge gives one the power to question one's self and resist brainwashing. If conservatives believe evolution is atheistic brainwashing, I can see why people from the NE have higher scores. Conservatives are smart, just too ignorant of factual matter.

You really don't get it do you? When you make generalizations you end up sounding foolish. Seriously, that might be fine when you're around other conservative haters, but in a balanced discussion you just sound un-educated.

First of all, I agree with your comment that MD is not a center of commerce. However, we have high tech companies and facilities here. For example, NIH is in Bethesda. This is just one example of how intellectuals in MD vote Democrat. Also, I am not Jewish. Churchill has tons of Jews, and yes they do vote (mostly) for the Democrats.
