Resume or No Resume?

At my sons High School every child is told to write an activities resume and give it to the teachers who they ask for recommendations and to enclose it with their College Applications.

In regard to enclosing the resume with the College Application, is this necessary? While I realize some students do not have room to list everything on the common app, even with the extra lines now available, what are colleges attitudes towards the resume (if anyone knows). Are they happy to receive additional information or annoyed? While I realize of course this varies with each college, I'm trying to see if anyone has explored this issue and has information to share.

Thank you.

I think giving a resume to teachers and the GC can be helpful. I think whether you include one in the application really depends on whether the resume just repeats the information that’s in the application already or if it really adds new (and important) material. Both my kids felt that they had been able to include everything that they done of any importance, either because they’d written about it in an essay, or they had listed it in the appropriate boxes of the Common Application.

Both mine did resumes to elaborate/make linkages to things mentioned on the Common App. It was more critical for S1 than S2 because he had a lot of “outside the box” items that were were important to cover.

I think there have been other threads on this topic. Lots of different scenarios / answers/

Yes, absolutely enclose the resume! A resume allows the student to describe the activities, which cannot be done on the activities form of the application.
