I have a 2230 across 2 dates (710M, 720R, 800W, 12 essay) but I'm not sure if I should retake it (for a higher superscore, of course... I doubt I could get that writing score/essay score again). I'm looking into HYP but I do have exemplary extracurriculars. I'm also taking the ACT to try for a 34 in june or august (I have a 33 now). So, should I retake it for these schools? Thanks!!

I retook a 2240 to get a 2320 and was rejected by HYP Duke Stanford Columbia Penn Waitlisted at Washu and Hopkins so there is no guarantee that a higher score will help or you could look at it like a 2320 isn’t good enough and you better retake it LOL your choice

I would opt against retaking it. Marginally higher scores don’t make too much of a difference. I was accepted into Harvard and Penn with a 2190 and no hooks.

If you are going to retake ACT in June, do your best to prepare for that. It seems you have reached your plateau in SAT already (and your ACT score also matched to the same level). You better to spend your time to write great essays for college and scholarship applications. A good essay may help you more than another 50 points in SAT or 1 point in ACT.

Listen, this is some honest advice.

There are always going to be people who say “I got in with a 2100, no problem SAT doesn’t matter too much!” as well as people who say “I got a 2350 and still got rejected!”

At the end of the day, that is the sad reality of these college admissions. They are just explaining their experience, and that may have been what they experienced, but it doesn’t mean it is what you will experience.

You can never judge the admissions process, however one thing stands to reason. A higher SAT score can never hurt you, and as long you have the time to lay aside for it, I don’t see a reason to not take it again. Especially if you are apply to the HYP tier of colleges. With SO many AMAZINGLY qualified students being rejected each year, it makes complete sense that you want to give yourself a better chances.

Good luck for the future.

^ You may drop the H from HYP if he is going to take the SAT for the 3rd times. Other than that, retaking only make sense if there is really room for improvement for yourself. If you can really get 2300+ on the last few timed practice test, it would make sense to retake it. If you have already reached your peak, you better spend time on something else.
