Retake a D & Getting an A vs. Convincing teacher for a C

in terms of applying to colleges etc.

I had a D in Geometry in 9th grade. I have 2 options:

1) Beg the teacher to raise it to a C
2) Retake the course online and get an A

BUT

If I retake it and get an A, the A will replace the D in my GPA, but both the D and the A will still be on my transcript.

How does this look to colleges if I retake a course and get an A?

It was also ninth grade and I was reallyyy sick (I missed almost 2 weeks of school from mono). Or should I just beg the teacher for the C?

Can you beg for a C and then retake it for an A?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Retake the course online and get an A, show that you know the material. Your GPA will be recacluated.

As far as the D, make sure you mention you were sick, and ABSOLUTELY make sure your counselour talks about it in his/her rec. Considering it was freshman year, you were sick, and you know the material, I think most colleges would let the D slide on your transcript.

princedog, I could check, but I doubt it & I'm pretty sure you have to have a D or less to retake a course. & thanks for the advice insane8914! :)

how easy is it to retake math courses online, ivy could you link me to the place where you plan on retaking your math course?

Www.flvs.net <--florida virtual school :D

Online geometry is a joke. Also, some colleges don't even factor in 9th grade grades. Don't worry about it. Take it online and include a note explaining it. You don't even need the counselor to mention it.

Ex, stanford calculates your gpa without including the 9th grade, so relax.

It's not like geometry's some allmighty hard class that reveals your ability in college or w/e.

it's not a big deal, but I would defintely have a counselor explaining it. If the rest of your transcript is stellar a D is going to stick out. However, it's freshman years so the adcoms will probably want to excuse you for it. Give them a reason, and a counselor explaining it will give it more credibility.

Haha, those of us in public high schools usually don't even have counselors who know us.

Why dont you just beg for an A?

sleep with the teacher...haha

^there's a 95% chance the op doesn't want to do that. unless you'd like to sleep with one of your teachers at random :P

Teacher could be hot.

hahah im taking a class on florida virtual school, what a joke, muiltiple choice test, lol what an easy A, just wish it wouldn't have all the busy work.

thats a question i've been meaning to ask also (only for algebra2trig, not algebra2).

also, does anyone here know if community college course credits can transfer over to substitute for a D?

OR does anybody know which online math courses the UCs accept? i've heard that the UC admissions officers don't accept online re-take courses..

i believe college level alg.

Teacher could be hot.

If you take a math course online do UC's really count this into your gpa? Does this get factored into your highschool gpa?
