Retake ACT with or without writing?

My first time taking the ACT was in Feb of my junior year. I took it without the essay section. My composite was 30.

My second time was in April of my junior year. This time was different because I had to take it for school. The school paid for it, and every student took it at the school. The school made it mandatory to take the essay section. My composite was 32 (and my essay score was 8).

I am considering another retake. I do not really want to take the ACT Plus Writing since the schools I'm applying to do not need it. However, would that look odd if I took it without essay, then with essay, and then without essay?

If you don’t want to take the essay section and the schools you are applying to do not require it, then I see no reason for you to take it.

Perhaps. Do the schools you’re applying to allow score choice? Either way, it may seem weird, but it honestly won’t affect anything.

just do the damn essay

Each time I just sent the score. I wasn’t going to play that game waiting for the best and then paying for the score report to each school.

So it would be a bit odd, but it wouldn’t a big deal? My English score was my highest at 36, so I thought that maybe it would be enough to prove my language skills.

Do the essay, it’s not that bad.

NuclearPenguins, I must say that your response was nicer than Truffliepuff’s response, although you two both said the same thing.

But do you think that it is super important that I take it even if the schools do not require it? A 36 in English would show them my language skills. I also scored well on the SAT writing section, so I thought that I don’t need to “prove myself” as much.

I honestly have no idea how much it would actually matter, but personally if I were you I would do it anyways.
