My goal is to apply to Foster School of Business to major in accounting during my sophomore year. However I did not do so well in math 124 during my first quarter (somewhere between 2.5-2.7) ... Because of math 124 my gpa for autumn quarter came out to be a 3.0. Should i retake it?

I don’t think you should retake it–if you’re planning on taking more classes in the 12x series, then I would sign up for those and do well in them. An upward trend wouldn’t look bad for Foster or any other competitive major. The only exception is if you really feel shaky with the material and believe that taking the class a second time would help you get a better grasp on the fundamentals.

Of course, I’m not a pre-business student, so I’d definitely ask around for some second opinions. You should talk to an advisor and see what they think as well.

Best of luck!

Thank you! I’ll definitely talk to an advisor

Your goal should be to get your cumulative and prerequisite GPAs as high as possible. They aren’t going to care about your grades in 1 or 2 classes (especially in your first quarter of college) if the rest of your grades are awesome, especially in your pre-business courses.

Just learn from your first quarter and figure out how to do better in the future.
