How many colleges combine the best of your sections?
My questions is because I got 770/800/720 M/V/W my first try and I seriously doubt I would be able to match the Verbal score again(never gotten 750+ on practice tests) while I am sure I can get an 800 in math, and pretty sure I can raise my Writing a little bit. So if my mix and match score improves but my individual composites stay the same or possibly even drop will that be looked upon as good or bad?

With that score, there is no point in retaking. If I were an adcom I'd wonder why you retook. It's a solid score. I talked to a few schools, and a lot of them aren't even paying attention to the writing score yet, because the section is so new. So don't bother. Your application essays will matter a TON more.

I would probably not retake, unless you are going for an extrememly competitive scholarship where scores are critical. And even with the writing, as Francophile said, a lot of schools aren't even looking at it. Even if they are, your scores prove that you have good writing skills. Focus on the app essays.

I actually am planning on applying to some tough scholarships, and I'm only a junior currently.

Any other advice?

I would suggest that you do not take the test again. Instead, study hard for the SAT II's and possibly take Math II and Physics. If you were to score 800's or something very close the schools should realize that you were capable of an 800 on the Math section. I believe that would benifit you more than a retake.

Is it because I have nothing to gain or do you think it could hurt me at all? Because I really don't mind spending the time to take it again.

Btw, those are the exact SAT IIs I was planning on taking.
