Retake SAT because of bad math score?

I got a 2120 on the SAT, which breaks down into an
-800 on Writing with 0 wrong
-750 in Critical Reading with 4 wrong
-570 in Math with 14 wrong and 3 omitted

I plan to go into Journalism and Music. Considering I have 3.6 GPA Unweighted (not so great) and plan on applying to more competitive schools (UW-Madison, U Chicago, NYU, Northwestern, etc), would you recommend retaking the SAT to fix the Math section?

I have also taken the ACT and gotten a 28. I plan to retake in the fall because I blew a section for no reason at all, and will hopefully score at least a 30.

I would definitely recommend retaking. Writing and CR are great scores, and I'm sure you could get your math up to 700ish with prep (I've heard that it's the easiest to raise). Personally, I think a 570 would hurt you a lot at places like UChicago.
Was that your first attempt? If so, I recommend a retake even more strongly.

Yeah, it was my first time taking it. See, I don't know if I should risk taking it again and having to do perfectly well on all the other sections again. It's not that I don't think I'm good enough to score well on them again, I'm really prone to error.
Also, I want to take more SAT II's. I've taken 3 with very average scores. I'm going to be a senior so I'd be taking either the SAT II or the SAT I again in the fall.

Most schools superscore anyway, which means taking the highest score from each section. So say you get a 700 in math next time, and 700 reading and 700 writing. Your superscore will be 2250 with 800 writing, 750 reading, 700 math. So yes, retake for sure

I'd retake, because of the superscoring element. Consider your Crit Read and Writing done, and ONLY prep for your Math. Be happy for ANY increase, I think the number has to be 600+ minimum. What SAT IIs are you taking?

Definitely retake, because some schools only look at CR+M which for you is only 1320. And although you are going in Journalism it would be beneficial to have a higher score. I'm sure you could improve and plus you've only taken it once, so why not?

I'd probably take Bio or something that I could be sure I get a high score on. Previous scores were a little mediocre. Do they look at the scores on SAT II's or just that you took them?

yeah retake it, math is easy to raise.
do a lot of exerices, and learn to love math.

Retake it and work hard on the math section. But MAKE SURE that you stay consistent with the other two sections because you don't want to have any major drop in any of them.

So focus on math, but review the other two sections from time to time to make sure that your score is staying consistent on them.

You should retake it. Just study for math and do lots of practice and you will be fine.

As everyone before me has said, retake it. Good job on the other scores though. :)

im jealous of your CR score. I missed like 6 and got a 680. poo!

-7 is 680? Whaaaaat? Last year, -11 was 680...

Eww, that sucks about the 680.. does this mean the test fluctuates in difficulty?
Yeah, I'm kind of daunted by SAT Math. It's just so difficult. Like they come up with the scariest questions about stuff like volume and boxes and planes?
I mean, in theory, it's all really easy, but once it's on the paper in front of you, it's much worse and hard to do in less time.

I was actually most proud of my writing score, except then I found out colleges apparently don't care if you're a kickass writer if you make a lot of stupid mistakes on math. :(

University of Chicago doesn't look at your writing score o.o
