I'm a sophomore transfer, looking at schools such as Michigan, UVa, Rice, Cornell, and Penn. My HS SAT scores were 2100 (680M, 720CR, 700 W). I'm worried about my low math score since I am applying to economics and computer science programs at these schools. I received A's in my HS Calculus classes, and will be taking Linear Algebra, Multi variable Calculus, and Differential Equations this year. I have linear algebra and DiffEq fall semester. If I'm able to get As in my math courses, then there's no reason to retake the SAT (I'm assuming my reading and writing scores are alright) for these schools.

Anyone? Bump

I’d do it. After a year of more math your score will go up naturally

I’m also applying to some of the same schools on your list and I have slightly higher scores. I was told that it would not make much of difference beyond that point. Doing well in hard math classes is more important.

If you are a sophomore, I know that most schools don’t place emphasis on test scores as much.

@nathanG: I figured I wouldn’t retake because it would spare me a good amount of time. Did you contact/email the schools? I have 730 in Math II if that’s worth anything.

Yes I contacted the schools when I had some questions. I was also tempted to retake but knew the amount of time it would two away. I got the message that getting an an A in multi is more important than the higher math score. Also remember that a higher score isn’t garunteed.

Obviously a higher score can certainly help and if you think it won’t take away significant study time from class, retake it. The choice is yours.

I got a 740 on math 2 and schools I’m thinking about do not require it but they do look at it. So it will help a little. By now you hopefully got the message that grades are more important haha!

@nathanG: Thanks for the feedback. I won’t be retaking it. Two college math courses and a potential rec from a math prof is enough to vouch for my math skills in my opinion.
