Retake SAT or take additional (extra) Subject Tests?

Hey guys,

Pretty much the title.

Took SAT twice, and got 2240 both times, but my super score is 2260.
CR:740
Math: 800
WR: 720

I also took two SAT Subject Tests:
Math II: 800
Physics: 800

I already registered for the January SAT Subject Test (considering taking Literature, and another one not sure yet.) But now I'm wondering if it's a better idea to call CollegeBoard and change my test to take the SAT Reasoning, because I feel like I can raise my WR score and CR score.

Also, I'm an international student and English is my 3rd language if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

Your decision to take another subject test is a head-shaker. You have 2 800s and all but a small handful of schools ONLY REQUIRE 2 tests. Having 15 800s won’t matter.

I would advise not retaking anything.

Definitely don’t take more subject tests. Retake the SAT ONLY if you’ve been getting significantly better in CR or W on practice tests. Your scores are fine.

Colleges that require subject tests require two. Johns Hopkins and Georgetown, which do not require subject tests, recommend three. Otherwise no college recommends more than two. Unless you are applying to Georgetown or Hopkins, you should cease taking any tests and that includes the SAT.

A few years ago, there was a guy here on CC who insisted on retaking his 2390 SAT. He got the 2400. My alma mater accepted him. He went to another school. I’m glad.

Congrats on being finished with standardized testing!

Hey guys, I appreciate all the comments!

By the way, I didn’t mean to make this one of those is “2260 a terrible score?” I’m very happy with my score, and I realize that it’s only a part of the whole application. But, I’m going to have some free time on January, and think it might be a good idea to try and raise my score, or take additional SAT Subject Tests. I know they only require two, but I’ve been seeing a lot of students who took more than that and were accepted to HYPSM. This is not to say they wouldn’t have been accepted if they only submitted two scores, but it does peek my interest, especially since as I said I have some free time in January to study for either an additional Subject Test or retake the SAT Reasoning.

Did that explain my reason for this? or is it still totally crazy and excessive?

Sit for another SAT. An improvement there has utility. Even if you got 3 more 800s on Subj tests, it would be worthless to you.

If the school only requires two subject tests then don’t take another. You already have two 800’s which is GREAT! And so is your SAT score! Good for you!

Since you are an international student, I assume that you took the TOEFL? If you got a good score on that too then I don’t see why you need to take the SAT again. But if you really want to or feel that it will significantly help your application then go ahead. You don’t want to have any regrets after the application process. On the other hand, if you did not score well on the TOEFL then definitely take the SAT again. It will improve your chances and show a command of the english language.

One last thing, that may or may not apply. If your essay is what is lowering your writing score then taking the SAT again might be good considering you are an international student. Again though if your TOEFL score was good I would not worry about it.

Good luck!

You should be fine in most colleges you apply to!

It is not crazy, and I understand the feeling. But it IS excessive. Your score is VERY good, and an increase is not going to significantly raise your chances of admission any where. If you have time, utilise it for some other worthy activity.
