Hi, I am a high school junior planning on applying to some top schools, probably even a couple of ivies. I was really disappointed when I got a 2250 on my SAT a few weeks ago (720M, 760W, 770R). I was gunning for 2300 or higher, and I easily reached that on all the practice tests I took, but I had a really bad testing day. However, I got a 36 on my ACT and I've heard most colleges let you choose which test to submit, so I was wondering if there was any reason to retake the SAT other than to boost my ego. I know if I do retake it my score will definitely go up, especially math (I got a 740 on math back in 7th grade), but I don't want to waste a Saturday testing if there's no good reason for me to. I'd appreciate any advice you have to offer.

Colleges definitely like the ACT, many offer a choice between 1) SAT reasoning test and subject tests or 2) just the ACT I would say retake it, but not if you’re not going to study in the meantime. Also, I just looked at this, the ACT website lists percentile scores, and it “only” goes up to straight 99, the SAT goe up to “99+” if you could get a 2300 or higher, that would be in the 99+ percentile, so SAT leaves more room to stand out, if you think you have a chance to get that 99+, I would study and retake

Ok thanks. I guess I’ll retake it in a few months.
