I would take it. An 800/790 in math would help (you can easily get it if you scored what you did on 2c) and a critical reading score in the 700's would help also. These schools probobly want to see some sort of writing score. But if you suck at writing and don't have time to prep, keep that score

sachit, you must take it. UC requires the new SAT, and the other schools require Writing, whether in SAT II form or SAT I form, and you do not have either. The private schools will let you mix and match your scores.

PS: Are you a prospective engineering major? I'm aiming for ME/EE

I'm doing cornell ED (probably), then michigan, CMU (you should definitely apply here, their CS school is the best in CMU and rivals MIT's), Northwestern, UCLA, UCB maybe UCSD (instate), gatech, possibly UIUC. Also check out harvey mudd.

You don't have to retake the new SAT, but the thing is, most top-level colleges are looking for either an SAT II:Writing or the new SAT, so you're going to have to give them a writing score somehow

yes, ashernm is right, you definitely need a writing score, be it the old sat2 writing or in the new sat1, for the schools you are applying to. and take it, u still hav room for improvement anyways, the biggest downside of it in my opinion is to sit tehre for 4 hrs (if u count in some breaks n delays) taking the test...
