Retake to improve already good scores?

This is going to sound like the whining of an obsessive perfectionist, but...

(1) I got a 2370 on the SAT I with writing. I know, I know, good score, right? Well do those thirty (missing points) count for anything? Is there a huge gap between those with perfect scores and me? Should I retake with the chance of getting 2400? I'm upset because I got 4's on the essay, but aced the writing section (damn subjectivity). Alternatively, I could take the ACT. Thoughts?

(2) In a similar vein, I scored a 780 on the SAT II Spanish (no listening). Should I retake, or just take different SAT subject tests in October? I know that I should have an 800, and I am ticked off, but I'm not sure how well I'll do with the listening part. I've studied for many years and have decent fluency, and I want my score to reflect it. A 780 seems like the score of a "good student" but not someone who is partially fluent. Am I misjudging?

I would agree with your post 100%…if only you would have stopped after the first sentence.

Where are you applying? What major? What is your GPA? EC’s? What’s your class rank? How competitive is your HS? Are you a target minority? Etc, etc…

Relax, go outside, read a summer novel, go for a bike ride…enjoy your life, you’re doing fine.

Chances are you’re probably not going to get as lucky as you did the first time. I’m assuming you got an 800 M 800 CR and 770 W, how do you know your scores won’t go down? Even if you did get an 800 CR and 800 W this time, one stupid math mistake can give you a 2370 again.

Unless you’re from a competitive state and are trying to get that award for top SAT in the state, then I don’t think it would make sense.

Which is also what it is going to look like to the schools you apply to. Your scores look quite nice and you should be proud of them.
