Does it matter which one I take? or should I take both of them?
WHat about SAT II's? I have only taken one in high school. Do I need to take SAT II's also?

i got 1580 on new SAT btw.. I sorta just gave up on it.

Colleges that I will be applying to (other than UCs)
USC, Gtown, Emory, CMU, UIBlooming, UVa and the likes =D

Don't just take them for sake of taking...
Prepare for them and don't give up next time...1580 is shockingly low, relative to the average applicant pool at those schools...

Maybe schools like Indiana might take your score...but surely, if you think you can score higher next time, take them why not?...

Are you delusional? You will not be getting into any of those schools except maybe UI-Bloomington (which isn't a bad school, BTW) with that score. Honestly, unless you've cured AIDS, your chance at getting into ANY of those other schools with that score is probably 5%. What are your ECs and GPA like?

Jslee1026: Yea, I didnt study and prepare for the SATs cause I knew where I would be going. My sister forced me to take it. I dunno why she did, but she did.

ohnoez: lol thats not my question.... I didn't ask what my chances are with my low SAT score. I know it's low and that is why Im gonna retake it. My question is: does it matter which one I take? Does SAT II still matter for transfers?

ECs: Internship at Accounting Office (part of ROP), Volunteer at local hospital, Afterschool Math Tutor (ALL during HS)
HS GPA: 3.1 or 3.2
CCC GPA: 4.0 (20 semester units)

That's why the name of the thread is "retaking ACT/SAT" as he obviously has the intention of raising up the scores.

IMO take both if they don't conflict too much with your schedule. Also, it's probablly good to have atleast two subject tests for some other top privs, so I'd suggest you take another one.

Well actually, I don't know how big those schools are specifically on transfer students regarding their SAT II scores. You may have to look at their websites and see if it is required/recommended. If so, I'd advise you to take atleast one.

I've read discussions here where people claim that for east coast schools ACT is better, and vice versa for west coast schools. Although I wouldn't take these claims with much validity, it's still worth for you to research about.

do test scores matter much if your applying for junior transfer? I mean if you have kinda low scores and your hs gpa and college gpa are relatively good like 3.5ish will they care as much?

Well, if you think you can score higher the next time, please re-take them.

Are you a foreign born student? Usually immigrant kids (including myself) tend to score low on verbal and writing sections. Math kinda compensates but if you bomb the verbal part...eh...

retake them only if you are sure you can raise at least 200 points.

Give both tests a try. Usually people do better on one than the other. You will naturally want to focus on prepping for the verbal and writing sections. The writing section is still gaining momentum, so don't worry about it too much - just do your best. But the verbal section is very important, particularly for students whose first language is not English. What was your score broke down into Math/Verbal/Writing?
