Retaking SAT for transfer?? And/or taking ACT?

(I've also posted his under SAT prep)

Hello! I am currently in CC wanting to transfer by Spring 2015. I have a few months until deadlines approach so I do I think I need take the SAT within the next 3 months if I am going to retake it.

I was wondering, does anyone see worth in retaking SAT for better chance of getting into colleges as transfer? My current highest score is in the 1500's, and some of the colleges I am looking at require it as I don't yet have enough credits to forgo doing so.

I am looking at Fordham as a top choice; I went to an information session and was told I didn't have to retake the SAT, because even though it is required they will focus more on current and in progress college credits.

Barnard college is my reach school to transfer into; I am aware this is super competitive so I am curious if it would benefit me to retake the SAT.

I am pretty lost as to how to substantially get my score up though; is there any suggestions? My weak point is the math section. Writing is my strong point. I didn't really spend much time studying during high school when I took the SAT so I am not sure how I should go about studying now.

What should I aim for--somewhere around 1850 right? Perhaps this is too high of an expectation for someone weak in math?

Also, what about the ACT? Should I take that too? I am not familiar with the ACT.

I am under the impression that if I retake the SAT and show huge improvement, my chances for schools would increase.

Also, what about subject tests? I think both the SAT and ACT has these? I want to double major history and comp. science; perhaps I should take a history subject test?

Thank you greatly anyone who takes the time to read and/or respond!!

First: subject tests aren’t necessary because as a transfer, the SAT will have more weight.
Also, I think you should re-take the SAT’s one or two more times and prep hard. Look into the" SAT Prep" section of the forum for more info on how to prepare for the test. Like you, my main weakness was the Math section, however I figured out that one is not just “bad” at it, one just need more practice. I would suggest to start reviewing the basic stuff like algebra, angles, and go on from there. Best of luck mate!

@Salami809 Thanks for responding it really helps a bunch!!

It is comforting to hear that someone else struggled with the math but was able to improve.

So SAT tests are out, I will put my focus on the SAT. What about the ACT?

I have taken the SAT twice already during high school, so I hope taking it a third time will not look bad to colleges. I’m hoping to have improvement and that that will be taken into consideration.

Also, do you think that I’ll have time to retake an SAT and get grades in by the Spring 2015 deadlines?

I’m off to check out the SAT Prep section–thanks again!!

Update: Oh man, it seems the last testing date for this year is this June??? I will most likely sign up for it, but I don’t know if I can prep for the test and improve my score within about a month or less. I will have tons of free time since this semester at cc ends this week but do you think it is possible??

I don’t see any other option because I feel like if I wait until later in the year or next year the grades won’t come in time for Spring 2015 college transfer, as some of the deadlines are around September. Jeez this seems really tough to accomplish. >_<
