Retaking SAT versus SAT for Stanford question

I am dead set on applying to Stanford REA and will probably only have a chance to either retake the SAT I or the SAT II before the deadline. The SAT II is optional but it is strongly recommended that you send in your scores.

That said, my scores are not quite up to par, with the following:

SAT
660 reading
740 math
760 writing
2160 all

SAT II
710 math level 2c
680 us history

On both, after studying this summer, i know that i can make my scores at least 100 points higher on the SAT and both 750-800 on two SAT subject tests.

What would be the better option for me to do, since I will only have a chance to retake one test?
Thanks for reading and replying! :)

SAT Subject Tests. Your SAT I is already in range for Stanford.

that’s what I was thinking, but I wasn’t sure how heavily the subject tests are weighted in comparison. my sat feels on the lower side.

but thank you for the reply! <3
any other opinions? bump

bump bump bump

Stanford is pretty crazy about its admissions so your SAT may not matter as much as you think. That being said… your score IS very low for schools like Stanford.

If we assume that Princeton and Stanford have similar admissions criteria…

Princeton’s acceptance rate for those with SAT scores between 2100-2290 is 9.5% while it’s acceptance rate for those with SAT scores between 2300-2400 is 22.4%. SAT scores apparently DO matter.

If you are unhooked and/or not a URM I recommend retaking your SAT.

That is very interesting, thank you.
I think that with a focus on retaking my SAT, I can pull off a superscore of 2300.
But, then should I even send my scores of SAT II given that they are so low?

I recommend retaking the SAT, with your primary focus being on improving your CR score. If you weren’t “dead set” on REA, I would recommend waiting in order to allow yourself more time to ensure the improved CR score and perhaps to improve the Subject Test scores. Since you are “dead set,” however, I recommend undoing that.

“Princeton’s acceptance rate for those with SAT scores between 2100-2290 is 9.5% while it’s acceptance rate for those with SAT scores between 2300-2400 is 22.4%. SAT scores apparently DO matter.”

While it may be tempting to make that inference, it isn’t NECESSARILY true based on the data. The higher acceptance rate for the higher range could simply mean that those students with higher SAT scores also had applications that were all-around better than those of the kids with lower SAT scores.

So I’m feeling a general consensus of maybe taking the SAT I again. With that, is it not a good idea to send my sat II scores with that? the scores are not terrible, and I heard that it is strongly recommended…

SAT 2’s I’d say. You better have some sick extracurriculars if you want Stanford though. Your SAT 1 is qualifying for Stanford, so long as your GPA is high. Stanford will take anyone with a 2100+ if they’ve got the EC’s and right essay.

I’ve heard some schools allow you to send in scores following admission, meaning if you take an SAT in November, they allow you to send in those scores when they come out, which may give u an edge. I’m not sure though…
