I got an 800 reading, 590 math and 800 writing. Although my guidance counselor says that two 800's are good, should I retest to bring up the math score? I read somewhere that colleges view 2200+ as a group and right now I'm just under that (2190).

I am looking to major in visual art or humanities, so math isn't going to play a huge part in my college career (hopefully). But I'm worried that if I do retest and I get lower scores in CR/W that they might somehow dilute the impact of my two 800's in the first sitting.

if you look at ur score out of 1600, its a 1390, which is great but definitely worth retaking. if you think you can do better in math, it will be worth it. you won't hurt yourself by trying again. i think you should.

I got W 800 CR 720 M 560 my first time out. Of course, your scores were higher, but I re-took once already (still waiting for my scores) and plan to re-take again. Of the seven schools I'm applying to, only one doesn't superscore, so if my English scores go down I'll be okay.

For me, a main issue is that the higher my total score is, the more scholarship money I will receive automatically from the schools I'm applying to. Like you, I am focusing on the humanities in college: English major, history and Bible studies minor. But I would still like to get that score up for scholarship purposes.

a ti-89 solves the equation for you if you put it in. its more a computer than an actual calculator. we're not allowed to use it in calc. idk if they let you during the sats

My d was similar to you ( lopsided math score ) and was also afraid she might get lower scores , but retook it and raised her math score 90 points with no additional prep. It's worth a try. Good luck.

Most colleges superscore - that is, they take the highest scores in each section, no matter when the tests were taken. So if you retake the SAT and get a 650 in math and 750 in CR and writing, the colleges will read it overall as 800 CR, 800 Writing, and 650 Math.
