Hi, I am an international student who got accepted from Purdue and UMN engineering but rejected from GT. Recently, I found RETP interesting. It seems pretty easy to tranfer out from regional colleges to GT. I can not only enroll in my dream school, but also can save a whole of money at the same time! I have read several threads about RETP and found out some disadvantages: lack of internship and research opportunities, adaptation problems, and etc. I know Purdue is a great school for engineering but not as good as GT. I firmly believe that I will have more opportunities in GT than in Purdue. If they are about the same level, there is no reason to abandon the research and internship opportunities in Purdue I guess… What do you think guys? If you were me, what would you do??
THANK YOU~~
I would check to be 100% sure you qualify for REPT. It may be only for instate student
This is an interesting way, you found, to get into GT. It seems though its much more risk for you than taking a Purdue offer then transferring from Purdue to GT if Purdue is lacking something. The Georgia state schools are not as good as Purdue, many are community colleges in Georgia and you run the risk of not meeting GPA requirements for a GT transfer, possibly.
You should start at Purdue, or U of Minn, see how you do, and then decide if GT is worth it after freshman year. Purdue is very respectable and fun campus and well ranked overall engineering college. You can do a masters at GT after Purdue. U of Minnesota is the best school for chemical engineering due to 3M investments. If you are chemical engineering , then carefully consider U of Minnesota. Purdue for any other major may be a bit better. But the city of Minneapolis may appeal to you more than the small town in Indiana, where Purdue is located. Good luck.
I’m a Georgia Tech student, and I love my school, but I do agree with Coloradomama. Purdue is a great school, and a top ten engineering one. It hurts not getting into your top choice but I know people here at GT with siblings studying engineering at Purdue - it’s not a bad school by any means!
I also think that RETP might only be for instate students. Even if it isn’t, I don’t think it’s worth the hassle when you’ve gotten into a school as good as Purdue!
On the GT facts page it says:
“Will I be guaranteed admission if I meet all the RETP/Dual Degree admission requirements?”
Answer:
It gives you high consideration for admissions.
So even though most people get in it is NOT guaranteed. I would go to Purdue. It’s not worth the risk.
