Anyone know how this works? My D is a current freshman and I am seeing notices about signing up for next years housing. She is in an LLC so we don’t know if she will be in it next year or not. She also might go through rush. If you sign up for the same dorm but your plans change is there a fee to change?
According to the RPS email…
Phase 1 8AM Sunday, October 1 to 5PM Thursday, October 5 You can sign a contract for your same apartment.
Phase 2 8AM Friday, October 6 to 5PM Saturday, October 14 You can sign a contract for any available unfurnished apartment. You can issue roommate invitations.
Phase 3 8AM Monday,October 16 to 5PM Friday, November 17 You can sign a contract for any available unfurnished apartment, furnished apartment or residence hall. You can issue roommate invitations.
If you’re looking to get an unfurnished apartment you need to act early, like 8:00:01 AM early. There’s a $250 housing change fee (ouchies).
So far DD2 is at a phase 2 apartment and loves it. But she did sign up immediately when housing opened phase 2. If you’re sure it is a residence hall you can go phase 3, but given the scant pickings from phase 2 it looked like phase 3 is mostly residence halls.
I signed a lease on a house with IU real estate I think around this time when I was a freshman. I didn’t go through RPS. Obviously, your daughter might have different needs, but I personally really enjoy living in a house. Much more space than dorms for essentially the same price.
Thanks. My D is in an LLC so unless she wants to be a peer mentor next year she won’t be able to sign up for the same room. She can ask to be in the same residence hall if she would like from what we read. She doesn’t know what she is doing yet and neither do her friends so having to sign up this early was a bit of a surprise to them.
