Returning Student

Hi,

I am 27 years old returning student to a school. Basically, I finished a couple of years of college with a GPA of 1.95 back in 2001. I went on to work as a Teller in one of the Reputed banks in the country and Currently I have been working as a Branch Manager/Service Manager from last 3 years. Also, I have some good community work to my credit. I planned on returning to college this year and did so by taking admission in a Community College - I got a 4.0 on both the courses that I took. Now, I have moved for work to NYC. I want to know, given that I screwed up academically 9 years ago, what chances do I have to be able to get into NYU and also the best way possible to do that.

Thanks !!

Does NYU or a CC there offer fresh start? I think the general rule of a fresh start option is that everything taken 10 years or older is wiped off your record, but I’m not sure what that does to your recent credit, and you might have to wait a bit to transfer. I don’t know many people that transferred with a GPA that low in their past, but I do know people who’ve been successful at transferring with older GPAs in the 2s, and then upwards of 40 hours with close to a 4.0 recently - sometimes that academic trend is enough for your target institution, but it varies.

I think it’s possible, but being that I don’t have any familiarity with NYU or the local CC system, I can’t tell you what the probability of the transfer would be. If I were you, I’d meet with a CC rep and possibly someone at NYU who can lay out all of the specific options for you.
