On the other hand, Amtrak has wifi (often) and big seats (always) and that great rhythm for reading–I swear I did well on my UVA final exams mostly because of those 13 hour Amtrak trips home every Thanksgiving! Love the train subculture on long trips, the old stations, and the way the train drops you right off in the heart of the city. My son and I will take it any time it’s feasible over the hell that is airline travel. Unfortunately, not so for travel to the East Coast from here.

Latest NE weather forecast calls for a wicked temp drop tonight (single digits- wind chill below zero) with winds gusting up to 30+mph tomorrow. It’s 45 degrees now and pouring. K2 forgot some important items yesterday and I just did another round trip while I had a window. He owes me. That wasn’t fun.

Last night my car was encased in ice. The sensors were beeping nonstop all the way home. I didn’t realize why until I pulled over and saw the thick layer of ice. It was crazy.

What a mess for kids still traveling. Sending good thoughts your way.

DC about to leave PHL for BDL, hoping he makes it over safely.

Jet Blue cancelled all flights yesterday so vacation got extended a day which allowed son to watch Rose Bowl game. Just dropped him at airport after flight today was delayed so hopefully he makes it back to Boston for dinner. Always concerned about his next meal! Sorry to see him go but I can see he was ready after sleep eat video sleep eat video! He does have the days numbered until spring break. I hope everyone got where they needed to be safely and without too much inconvenience.

ChoatieDad’s connection from Charlotte to Hartford Sunday afternoon started the descent to BDL when pilot announced that BDL was closing and they were heading back to Charlotte. Yep, did a round-trip back to CLT, waited for a new crew, and didn’t got to CT until the wee hours of Monday AM. What a mess.

My son had no problem going back as he was in LA but some of his friends are still on the way. I am worried for them.

LondonKid made it back today… on time and with bags. Guess waiting that extra day (did we even have a choice? ) made all the difference. A family friend picked her up so we didn’t even need a cab. Nice. On the other hand, many of her friends still have no luggage…
