I decided I'm going to UCSD, and I got into Revelle college.

I'm in a Math major, but I will switch to either Electrical Engineering or Chemistry, since I hear its pretty simple to change majors at UCSD.

But I heard Revelle is the second-to-worst college (was not my first choice). Apparently there are a crap load of General Ed. requirements, which people say will probably make an engineering major graduate in 5 years.

(Aside from that I hear they have mediocre food, old dorms, and... the triton eye will develop more quickly there.)

May I have some insight on the GenEd stuff? If it matters I'll have AP credits in:

AP US History (3)
AP Language & Comp. (4)

Pending this year: AP Government, AP Micro Econ, AP Literature, AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C Mechanics.

can anyone please post the pros of getting into revelle? im looking very hard for any but i can’t find one thing. I’m trying to cheer myself up after getting into the worst campus in UCSD

Geez, I never realized there was all this animosity toward Revelle. You know, once you finish up, you’ll consider yourself a “UCSD grad” and never call yourself a Revelle/Muir/Warren/whatever student unless you’re in the company of another UCSD alum.

i hate how everyone gets this negitive disposition about the place before the even get there. My room frosh year was the best ever, the suites are set up so you can socialize really easily, they go boy/girl/boy/girl. I could even see the ocean from my room. POTS, right next to plaza, is open till 12-1am every night and is a great place to hang out and get late food. The boys always played pool there and there were tournaments. Any chem classes are 3 minutes away from your room, compared to other ppl who have to walk 15 mins uphill to get there (not fun at 7.30 in the morning). CLICS library is the only library open 24 hours 10th week and during finals week. There are MANY perks to revelle, dont be so depressed about it until you experience it. Also, if you like europe, the Revelle in Rome trip (summer for 6 weeks) lets you take one of the Humanities classes in Rome (which was amazing), for the same tuition (you pay for the flight/housing, but you get to live in an apartment right by the Vatican). So seriously, be excited. I didnt want to write this because what you said made me mad, but I guess its something.

wow that is a little harsh! Revelle is not that bad guys, I have tons of friends in Revelle who love it. Be happy you got into UCSD cause there are tons of people who would trade your spot right now.

^ i think that’s a very good way to look at it.

i’m still proud to be a revelle student. GEs might have been a smidge easier if i was in muir, but knowing that all my best friends from college were from revelle, i wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Being a math major/engineering/science major will put you close to most of your lectures (so long as they’re not at Warren Hall!) All my math lectures (and my friends’) were at LEDDN, which is in Muir, so it’s just a college away (:

Physics & Chem will be within Revelle, so you’ll be super close to them, too.

I reallyyy liked being in Revelle, as astrina said, cause most of my close friends were in it. Also, I lived in Blake, so Clics was just a quick walk from my dorm to the library, and if I ever forgot anything, I could just run back and get it without feeling like I just had to make do /wo whatever I forgot. Pots is right next to Revelle Plaza (probably one of the best college markets on campus that accepts dining dollars) and you’re also super close to the beach (walking distance-wise).

While I did wish the GE’s were a bit easier (a reason why I was forced to leave UCSD) like all the other posters have said, I wouldn’t have it any other way. You won’t regret being in Revelle (:
