We just got back from Taft revisit and LOVED it. The school really has a great feel to it. They did a great job pairing up my daughter with her guide. The head of admissions read a little line about each child who got accepted which was neat.

Devon,

Today? My daughter was there with her dad and loved it too. In fact, he was blown away.

What grade is your daughter starting?

I think we found a winner, but it’s not official until she tells me and makes it official. The wait is killing me. I went on the interview trips so I was “banned” from revisits so her father could see it for the first time without my commentary :-)

I went to the Tabor revisit today. My tour guide was really nice! She was REALLY honest- maybe a little too honest…? I learned allll about the school to say the least!

The Deerfield revisit was AMAZING! They match you up with your tour guide based on personality and have you come to classes and a sit down lunch. The sit down lunches were AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. After the revisit day I know there is no place I would rather be than Deerfield. I will be going there.

Wait… Revisits are private?!?
I thought they were in groups! Well this will make it so much worse - I’m sick and can’t go tomorrow… :(

Well each prospective student got a tour guide, but there were five to six pairs in a group. You could stay with your group or just go with your tour guide- we did a combination of both. I met a lot of people!

I’M GOING TO BLAIR. I just got back from visiting, and now I’m at the airport. I’m emailing all the other schools that I’m not going and taking myself off the SPS waitlist. We’re writing the check for the deposit as soon as I get home!!

Blair is definitely where I’m going. Everything felt right.

good for you bama! I’m glad you found your place. (I’ll stop before I start using cheesy cliches ;))

Andover’s food was AMAZING fyi :)

Lawrenceville School revisit is awesome! I love everything about Lawrenceville!!!

gaellexoxo did u apply anywhere else?

Congrats Bamagirl! Blair is a beautiful place, one that both my son and I liked a lot. I’m very happy for you.

Hello esteemed BS folk in the eUniverse, Can you please elaborate a little more on your experiences? What are the events of the day? What did you like most and what you wish were better? This will help us next year in terms of what to look for during revisits. Gracias Amigos. :)

candidate123 I applied to about 4 other schools. pulsar On Revisit Day today I was paired with a student host. I went her classes, met her friends, experienced a class around the Harkness Table, saw dorms and even eat lunch which was great. As far as events the Jazz Ensemble played, headmaster spoke and lawrenceville clubs united to speak to us. Overall it’s a great day that gives you a taste about boarding life and what the school has to offer.

gaellexoxo, Thanks and good luck to you at L’ville. I am applying to L’ville next year. Have you been in the Math or Sci classes? If so, what do you think? What do you think of the house system?

i’m like at greenfield right now after 4 hours of car ride…
if i choose to attend nmh i wud have to sit on the plane for 19 hours and then continue with another 4 hours of car…
i don’t think its really worth it… what do you think?

if you like it then it’s worth it!!

If you are willing to fly 19 hours, then a 4 hour ride shouldn’t be a deal breaker. Pick the school you love; you’ll deal with the travel. But after reading about how far you travel, I will never complain about having to drive 5 hours to her school. She could fly as the airport is pretty close, but I am too cheap.

Are you revisiting Mercersburg too? My dd is a tour guide there.

I can’t speak for my son, who had his last revisit today at Kent, but I thought it was a lovely campus and an impressive institution. The kids seemed articulate, friendly, and involved. We didn’t have the opportunity to meet as many professors as I would have liked, but that had more to do with how we mapped out our interests during a day that was very self-structured for parents. The campus and surrounding town are ridiculously picturesque. The closest in-town store (about 3 min away by foot) is a Belgian patisserie and chocolatier (not a pizza parlor, or a CVS, but a pastry shop that serves homemade pastries and fois gras by the former personal chef of the Belgian ambassador to the US–that is crazy)! The campus is small but well-maintained. The athletic program is particularly impressive, but not for the reasons I had assumed. There truly seems to be a focus on athleticism as a primal part of the well-rounded student–but that athleticism doesn’t have to be defined by a division 1, 2, or 3 sports team. Offerings include club mountain biking, sailing, yoga, and on and on. The student panel featured jocks who sang in the school choir; an Afgan girl who was exploring the first real educational opportunities she had been afforded; a “glee” club girl who had thrived at the arts department; and on and on. Perhaps more than at the other revisit days we’ve been to, this seems to be a privileged campus (a lot of moms who are “skinny-minis”–fit, beautifully dressed, tan, guilt/insecurity-inducing). A famous movie-star was there with his son, and no one seemed fazed (with the exception of my son, who was the only man, woman or child to go up and introduce himself–not so good). I guess my overall impressions of the school are of “luck” and “blessedness” and “good-fortune”. I was very keenly aware of how privileged any child is to be educated and nurtured in such a bucolic, pristine and academically-rigorous environment.

yeah if i can recall correctly the town of kent is all owned by one man (real estate) and has turned it into his own quaint rural town.

paobs12
how did you feel about the campus and how all the buildings were so close together i visited but did not apply and yes being from NYC kent is definitely filled with upper eastsiders
