revolution prep

how's this class? has anyone taken/ heard of it before? it supposedly guarantees a 200 pt increase

i don't know anything about the company or its methods, but i found this statement of the guarantee on their web site:

"Any student who attends all classes and does all of their homework but does not increase by at least 200 points can take the course again for FREE. No new materials are provided. This guarantee is based on Revolution Prep’s average score improvement."

this is essentially the same guarantee made by kaplan, pr, testmasters, and other companies. while revolution's methods may be much better than those other companies' methods for all i know, if the guarantee is what you're excited about, you should know that it's not that unique.

Testmasters(Texas one) guarentees 300 points.

I've worked with some students after they've taken the Revolution Prep class. I'm not overwhelmingly impressed. I think they tend to oversimplify and teach to the middle (500-600 scorers). I also wasn't impressed with their sample tests. I found more than a dozen incorrect or unrealistic questions on a single sample test. Why a company like Revolution Prep (Or PR or Kaplan) doesn't use real SATs is beyond me. But as with all test prep companies, the teacher makes all the difference. If you get a good one, you'll learn a lot.

And Mike is right about the guarantee...everybody has something similar, and all it gets you is the same class over again. Plus, you have to attend every class, take every practice test and do every homework assignment to qualify.

For some reason, lots of private schools use Revolution for their on-campus SAT classes in California. I don't really know how they got that gig...

wow .

My school uses it only because it states that it will not deny anyone the opportunity to get SAT help, no matter how 'financially incapable' they are.

Revolution Prep was somewhat helpful for my daughter's preparation for the SAT. It provided a few tips on time management, as well as when to guess.
As for the "guarantee", I would not count on it. The instructor came to our home (we bought the hybrid: classroom/private tutoring) and pretty much said that the test students take at the beginning of the course are graded artificially low and those taken at the end of the course--artificially high. Perhaps that is why they do not use actual SAT tests.

yeah cuz i've just taken the 1st test, and i only got a 1950
i think my score got trimmed off

CR: 650 w/ 7 wrong
M: 690 w/ 2 wrong (***?)
W: 610 w/ 6 wrong & 6 essay (more realistic here)
