Rhetorical Devices of the SAT??

I don’t take ap language yet, so I’m confused about what collegeboard would like for the Essay. Would they mind if I used logos, ethos, or pathos maybe as one of the rhetorical devices if I see one? I’m not sure if that is counted as an actual device, lol

I used ethos, statistics, and examples. I’m not 100% sure what they want either, but I just took AP Lang and found the SAT prompt very similar to one of the AP Lang essay prompts, so I just did my SAT like that AP essay. I think I did it correctly.

Yes, those should be fine; however, keep in mind that ethos, pathos, and logos are the three primary rhetorical appeals, and are likely to be referenced by a large number of test-takers; as a result, in order to avoid writing an essay in reference to solely ethos, pathos, and logos (which unfortunately have become cliché), just do a Google search for lists of rhetorical strategies. Needless to say, essay graders will be impressed if you refer to “paralogism” or “tu quoque” (these are actually fallacies, but you get the idea :)) as opposed to devices that the majority of test takers are likely to have analyzed in their essays.
