Among the 12 schools I have applied to, I have narrowed down my decision between Rhodes and Austin College. I plan on going into medicine or public health and I received scholarships from both schools. Which one should I choose?
Go with your hart, if the money is the same. If not pick the one is cheaper, med school is expensive, you want to save as much as you can.
I am a Rhodes graduate so there’s that…and I know for a fact that both colleges are wonderful. Truly. You cactually can’t make a bad decision :)! A few things to consider. The former President of Austin College is now the President of Rhodes College…maybe not important but interesting. Rhodes has exceptional pre-med support and studies. They have excellentl connections with area hospitals including world-famous St Jude’s. They just completed a fantastic life science building/complex so between connections and facilities you really can’t go wrong. So I can’t pick for you but it feels to me like the opportunities for research, internships and med school placement may just be stronger at Rhodes. If you pick AC you’ll get a top flight education there, too…so yes, your heart should play a role.
I do not know enough about Austin College to offer meaningful input.
However, Rhodes College seems to love their students & is on a mission to help their students get into medical school. You cannot go wrong with Rhodes College in your case.
We had a long time poster here whose daughter attended Rhodes. She went on to Yale. Search for Curmudgeon.
^^^^I think she was awarded the Goldwater award while at Rhodes.
