@seanharger
I think you have a great chance at making it. What have you finished on the application so far?

@wcarroway

I’ve pretty much done all the basic stuff: recommendation letters requested, transcripts sent, activities and basic info filled out. I have a pretty good draft of the Rice Cultural essay but I’m still working on that. You applying too?

yeah, i’m still a little behind though. I have the basic info filled out, but i still need to get the letters of rec, and transcript stuff done.

I am a Rice Transfer (from NYU to Rice) and wanted to respond to this thread!

I have had one of the best possible experiences transferring because I integrated fully into the residential college system. I am currently the Hanszen College president! The students are brilliant and the social dynamic is incredibly unique. In short, it’s difficult not to find your niche and thrive here.

cocoricetran is extremely enthusiastic about transfers to Rice, etc and not only knows a lot but absolutely loves to help (she made an account just for that post haha). If you guys have any questions at all PM me and I’ll make sure she answers them!

Hanszen still sucks.

Chances?

Also if anyone wants to read my responses to the short essays I would love you.

Sorry for all the typos btw

GPunger104, I would say that you and I are fairly similar in terms of stats. However, you seem to be more on the liberal arts side while I am more the sciences. I think you have a decent shot as well. Why are you leaving NYU, just curious?

Being in the middle of NYC with no campus and 50,000 students totally strips NYU of a community vibe. It’s really difficult to feel like part of the school, and for the most part, the school doesn’t really care all that much about the students. They often act more in the interest of money than the well being of the kids here.

It’s also really expensive and they offer little in the way of scholarships.

I’m having a similar lack of community “vibe” here at Northeastern. Good luck to you!

I find that a lot of transfers to Rice say the same about wherever they are coming from. I can 100% assure you that you will find what you are looking for here, so I really hope to see you guys succeed in your ventures.

So yeah, if anyone wants to swap essays… these short answers are killing me!

Question about letters of rec and the college official report:

Can I just send these by mail after they’re completed by the appropriate personnel? I don’t need a seal on any envelopes, do I? Also, copies are fine, right?

@Lestrygonians
Unless you did not sign the form waiving your right to access (which I strongly recommend you do), you can never see those forms again after you submit them to your professors. That means they need to be sealed by the people writing them and preferably mailed by them. I asked all my professors/advisors to put their own return address on the form and mail it themselves, to prevent any questions regarding whether I have or haven’t seen the contents of the envelopes. The colleges take that very seriously, so I would play it safe. Copies are fine, also.

If you’re submitting recs and transcripts on paper, it should be fine to have them sealed with a signature of whoever wrote the recommendation and whoever is responsible for preparing the transcript across the seal.

You could provide envelopes and postage and have them mail it, or you could mail them yourself in a larger envelope, enclosing all of the sealed pieces.

What address are all the secondary forms sent to? like the professor evaluation.
