Just to share the Full text of deferral letter if any one likes to see:
The Admission Committee has completed a careful evaluation of your Early Decision application for admission. Given the strength of your academic and personal contributions, we are deferring your application to the Regular Decision plan for further consideration.
A small number of applicants are deferred from Early Decision to Regular Decision for the purpose of taking additional time to consider their candidacy for admission. We understand you may have questions about the deferral process, so please read the answers to some frequently asked questions at admission.rice.edu/defer-faqs. You must submit your senior mid-year grade report to be considered for admission in Regular Decision. Please ask your counselor to forward this information as soon as it is
available.
Additionally, we encourage you to provide any updates to your application since its original submission to the Admission Committee. Tell us about your continued interest in Rice University along with details of any new awards, accolades or accomplishments. Additions to your file should be sent directly from you and
received in our office by March 1, 2020. Please do not send any additional letters of recommendation from school officials, Rice alumni or others. The preferred method of document submission is via your Rice Admission Student Portal. Regular Decision notifications will be released by April 1, 2020.
Thank you for submitting your application via Early Decision. We appreciate your continuing interest in Rice and look forward to further reviewing your application during the Regular Decision process.
Typically, how many students are deferred during Early Decision and later admitted?
Admission rates vary from year to year based on the competitiveness of the applicant pool. There is no clear indication of your chances of admission after being deferred; however, nearly every year, we admit some students who have been deferred. https://admission.rice.edu/defer-faqs
@Houston1021 - Does Rice snail mail any sort of acceptance package? My daughter was admitted ED (YIPPEE!). I must admit, I kind of miss the big envelope in the mail with the glossy photos, that we all received.
Rice was my youngest’s first choice school and he applied ED. He was already pretty much set to go with other EA choices if he did not get accepted. What’s nice about ED the way Rice does it, is that one can apply to a number of EA and rolling admissions schools so that a deferral or rejection isn’t as harsh.
What I noticed was that most all students happily switched to other schools in that scenario. And those who didn’t have other early choices did go on board later in the year with other schools just as enthusiastically, but there was that period of hurt and fear when other alternatives not on the table.
Four years later, that group of kids all happy with where they ended up going. Not always the case, but these kids were all good candidates for schools like Rice, with many not getting into first choice. I can honestly say, that for kids like you, right now disappointed in Ruce decision, it’s almost certainly going to be great regardless of how you feel now.
@Happy4u Rice usually sends a big envelope with the welcome information. If you go to Rice admission’s twitter or Instagram sites you can see a picture of what the welcome packet looks like. I believe the financial aid information is included in the packet as well.
