Hey, I’m a high school senior going to Harker in California. I’m super interested in applying either ED1 Rice, but I’m not sure what my chances look like. I’d be going in as a pre-med (so most likely a Cell Bio/Neuro major), and I was interested in how pre-meds tend to do at Rice. How easy is it to maintain a high GPA (3.8+) as a Rice student and are there any pre-med advisors that can help me on my path to medical school? Also, is there any grade deflation or majors that are typically taken by other pre-med students? I have a 4.1 weighted GPA, with a 1560 on the SAT, 35 on the ACT, and an 800 on the SAT2. I’ve taken 10 APs throughout high school and I’ve scored 4s and 5s on almost all of them with the exception of a few 3s on Calc BC, Chem, and World. I also founded a chapter of a national entrepreneurship/biz organization in my city as well as a medical club at my school. I’ve been a part of my school’s journalism program for the past 4 years, as a podcaster and columnist and have also done biomedical research throughout high school. I have over 500 hours of community service, volunteering at an elderly home, hospital community foundation, tutoring underserved kids, and donating PPE equipment to front line health care workers. I’ve shadowed physicians for about 100-200 hours, and also work as a paid assistant for a small corporation. What are my chances of getting accepted as an ED applicant vs an RD applicant? Also, is there any advice that you could give me for the Rice supplement, personal statement, or alumni interview?
