Rice application question

If you send in Part 1 of the app and receive Part II, are you locked into using that Rice paper application or can you then file the online Common App? In other words, once you start with one or the other, you have to stay with that application type, correct? And the only way to apply online is with the Common App?

Sorry for the dumb question, and I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but just wanted to make sure!

Shouldn't pat be asking this?

Probably so, but if you'd be kind enough to give me the answer, I'll be sure to pass it along to him. Thanks.

um.. you send in part 1 because it's required. but you can do common app after that. it doesn't matter if you do the rice app or common app for "part 2." there are rice supplements. be sure to check those.

patsmom,
We found that confusing too, but I agree with the above poster that you can do either. Right now I'm having my D hold off from sending in any Part 1's (she's received them from other schools too) and just do the CA with suppliments.

First, I believe the Rice application (Part I and II) can be completed electronically as well as on paper.

<a href="http://www.futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/The_Application_Form.asp?SnID=529035791%5B/url%5D">http://www.futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/The_Application_Form.asp?SnID=529035791</a></p>

But I thought Part I was not required of students completing the Common Application...and if I'm not mistaken, you can switch to Common after submitting Rice Part I, but you need to notify Admissions you are doing so. You will still need to complete the Rice supplements on paper (the box) regardless of which method you choose.

Thanks for the info. I overlooked that page with the online Rice application and that's why I thought that only the Common App could be done electronically. I knew about the supplement having to be mailed in.

I appreciate your help (all of you!) :)

Okay... still confused. If applying using the Common App can we still send in Part I first and then switch to the Common App and supplement? Rice said to send in Part I ASAP to start a file, and it will be a while before we send in stuff if we wait to apply with the Common App.
