Rice/Baylor 2018

Is there anybody on here applying for Rice/Baylor?
Its a really far reach for me to get into Rice itself, much less Rice/Baylor, but I'm giving it a shot. What are your guys' stats?

I am not applying Rice/Baylor (mainly because I am not that interested in medicine although I am in biology). You should try it out, though. It can’t hurt. But the chances are quite slim with only 14 or so people getting accepted into that program.

But I would hope you have awesome recommendations, awesome essays, great test scores, and great ECs.

Good luck!

Girl (assuming you are a girl), I’ll be happy to just get into normal Rice

Yeah I have a 2060 on my SAT and 3.6 UW, 4.0 W average, so I’m not expecting much. But my essays are pretty good and my recs are really good. I guess it will be what it will be.

I’m applying to the Rice/Baylor program. Like StarSeraph said, they only accept 14 people every year. I’m really inclined toward medicine, and I thought it wouldn’t hurt to try, so I applied lol

tempe39, Rice approaches each application holistically, so I feel you have a pretty good chance despite your below average scores. I don’t know about Rice-Baylor since many students with really high GPA and scores will be applying…

And as I said, it doesn’t hurt to try.

Good luck tempe39 & PrinceofPers1a!

First of all, good luck to all who are applying. I have a question. Does anybody know specifically when is the application deadline on December 1st? For instance some universities mention “by 12:00 am EST.” Thanks in advance for your responses.

Sorry, I meant Rice/Baylor 2018 deadline. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

The deadline will be December 1, 2013 by 11:59 CST.

Thanks StarSeraph for your reply. Did you find this information on Rice’s website?

So the application is due tomorrow by midnight? And also, are the two application, the CommonApp and the Rice/Baylor specific app, seen together? I’m just wondering since the essays are so similar.

The statement at the bottom of the Rice/BCM application states:
I hereby authorize Rice U. to make available to Baylor CM all of my admission application materials for the purpose of determining my eligibility for the Medial Scholars Program.
So I think BCM will see your Rice application.

I’m trying to finish typing my essays for the application, but the PDF file doesn’t seem to want to save. Any thoughts/help?

The checklist says school report PLUS counselor recommendation. Don’t our college counselors automatically submit the counselor recommendation with the school report on the common app?

My school does send in counselor recs with the school report, but I would double check with your counselor.
I was really excited to apply to Rice/Baylor until I found out that the 2014 incoming class will be required to make the mcat, which is one of the most stressful parts of the traditional route. Kinda sucks, but I guess considering the increasing competitiveness of the medical field it makes sense.

If the newly mandatory MCAT score turns out really great, can the student in rice/baylor program apply to other medical schools without hurting the guaranted Baylor medical school spot ? If so, the MCAT requirement is stressful but gives more opportunities to the rice/baylor students.

@quotable
I think that like the other programs (BS/MD, BA/MD) the MCAT requirement won’t be crazy over the top. It would be irrational for them to go from no MCATs whatsoever to a 33,34+ requirement. I’m banking on it being 30-32 OR maintain with national average that year (some schools use the average school as the benchmark). Either way I am still excited for the program, and if I get in, I wouldn’t hesitate even with the MCAT requirement because chances are that the new requirement will be a lot lower than the average of Baylor CM’s average enrollee. But if it’s like WashU’s USPM req like a 36 MCAT, ill be disappointed and kinda iffy about it…

Also @Dad2013 I personally don’t think BCM will allow the apply to other schools while holding a guaranteed spot. That kind of condition is usually true for SOME other combined programs that maybe have not as much comeptitive med schools (not saying that they are bad) but since BCM is really really good med school, i don’t think they would allow something like that. But I bet you can still “apply out” but you would probs lose ur guaranteed conditional spot. idk to be honest, but just my opinion. I hope they release the info soon!

When my D check Rice admission status link, her Rice/Baylor appication was received in Dec 2nd. She actually emailed her rice/baylor application as of Nov 28. She emailed to Rice to get a confirmation. Is this an issue for rice/baylor application ?

Hey… I had the SAME PROBLEM but I. Asked someone else and they say that is OK as long as it says that they received ur rice Baylor app. I think the dates represent when they opened the application itself and that would need to be on Sunday cause it was Sunday and in thanksgiving brrak

But please let me know what rice responds though… I really hope. It’s not an issue or problem
