I’m applying ED to Rice and am interested in majoring in economics. I wanted to minor in theatre but rice doesn’t have that option.
So I decided to indicate interest in double majoring in the two fields. In fact, we even have to write 150 words on why we want to do so. Is it advisable to write about both? Or should I just go with econ, and figure out the theatre bit when and if I go to rice (fingers crossed)? Is it common for undergrads at rice to double major across different schools?
Sure, if you think it will help the application readers get a better understanding of who you are, I say go for it. I don’t think it would hurt your application.
I wouldn’t say it is common, but it’s definitely not incredibly rare. Even so, you shouldn’t feel forced to indicate a double major just because you think it might make you a more competitive applicant/student (if you were to come here).
Double majoring at Rice is decently common, at least it was when I attended. Though remember Rice didn’t even offer minors for the longest time, they are relatively new, so lots of students double majored.
