I was wondering if anyone had any examples of accepted Rice essays recently. I would love to see them and gain inspiration and experience. What is Rice looking for in their essays and how should I convey them?
Unfortunately, I won’t be of any help in terms of recently accepted Rice essay drafts. But I can say that, generally, Rice looks at who you are as a person beyond what your numbers say. That is, for example, in the big essay, they ask for your perspective or background and the like, so discuss how you’ve been shaped into the person who’s now convincing Rice to accept you. What is it about your life that has gotten you this far? What big decisions have you made? What life events have you gone through? It’s honestly a chance to reflect your own life and to present to admissions that you, with all your flaws, despite all of life’s obstacles, considering all future endeavors, and so forth, have something contribute to Rice’s culture and campus. And don’t forget to connect it to Rice’s specific features. So don’t just talk yourself up, but talk Rice up too and inflate Rice admissions’ ego a bit.
do you think I can post my essay and ask for users to improve and edit it?
No. do not post it. You can PM it to me for a brief critique.
