rice interview

How much does not doing the Rice interview hurt you? I filled out the form for the interview, but I turned in my application on January 1st, so I didn't get an interview. Does doing the interview boost your chances (other than showing interest for the school)?

There essentially will be no impact whether or not you interviewed. There would be some exceptions, but for the average applicant, it’s not a make or break. Let the rest of your application (including recommendations) speak for you. Good luck.

I didn’t do an interview and still got in. I don’t think it matters much.

It can do nothing but help you. The only question is how much it helps, and that depends on your general knowledge and intelligence, as well as your public speaking skills. If you missed your chance, I would not worry too much about it.

Thanks guys!
Rice actually sent me an email last week stating that although they were unable to get me an interview, the fact that I requested an interview would be noted. They (just like you guys) also said that not having the interview won’t hurt me, so I guess it’s all good.

It does not hurt you, but it may change an uncertain decision to an acceptance. You just never know, so ACCEPT interviews!
