Do I have a chance of getting any merit aid?
What is the typical amount of merit aid Rice might offer to someone like me?

Rice AID is quite subjective. Rice adds 1000 each year for national merit.

However, their other merit aid is dispersed. I have seen people with perfect scores not get any while some have gotten as much as 27,000.

Maple47- you have great stats… but so does everyone else at this stage. A friend of mine (Dad is an alum and very plugged in to the Rice community) says they are expecting to get 15,000 applications this year. Projected acceptance rate will be 6%, which is lower than the Ivies. Rice already has a tiny merit aid program. When it becomes this competitive, being accepted will be the real challenge, not getting merit. You seem like a great student and I wish you the best… but no one can expect much!

They have a 1000 seats and normally admit 2200 students or more. So the admit rate will be more than 14%

WHAT??? Are you kidding 14%? That’s ridiculous… Why does this have to happen the year I apply?

Any news on how many ED applications they got?

For ED, do you think they will notify on Esther on the 15th (Saturday) or do we have to wait until Monday, the 17th?

The website says they’ll release decisions tomorrow…
