Rice University Admissions

Hey Im looking to apply to rice University ed next fall and my GPA is very high except my test scores kind of lack...
SAT (2080)
ACT (31)
Do i stand a chance ?

I got in with a 3.59 UW Gpa this year, 2090 SAT, 33 ACT. I’d say you have a chance. I applied ED and I interviewed on campus for what it’s worth.

You definitely stand a chance as long as you have ECs and really good essays. I mean nothing is definite, but I had a really high GPA and 2000 SAT and got accepted w/ a scholarship. So anything can happen.

What is your class rank?

Also, can you retake the SAT/ACT? Your scores aren’t bad and won’t automatically rule you out of anything.

Let me say I love the positive vibe of this thread! Since some of you are already attending please tell me how is now? Do you feel overwhelmed academically or is it manageable? How are the other students are they still all competing for positions and status or are the students generally friendly and helpful and its a good fit? Very interested if it seems like a supportive environment or not?

I am an alum, so not in school right now. Rice is not academically overwhelming at all, although you are surrounded with extremely smart people. You have to be ready to not be the guaranteed smartest person there.

Students are extrmely friendly and collaborative. Our whole chemE class worked together on several problem sets and helped each other learn.

Rice has been fantastic so far. The student body really is a community and people often work together in pretty much any class. Academically, it’s definitely not a cake walk, which is expected, but with so many people out there to help, it becomes manageable. It’s definitely a supportive environment. Rather than people trying to compete and force each other to become better, it feels more that people are trying to help each other become better. Obviously there are still some cutthroat folks on campus, but generally, it’s a very helpful setting.

My son had been stressing over NO WORD about whether he would get an off-campus interview. He got an email (finally) yesterday offering him a Skype interview. Admissions said they have no alum in our area. So that is excellent. I believe interviewing is definitely to his advantage.
