Rice University RD Class of 2020 Discussion **OFFICIAL THREAD**

Does anybody know when decisions come out? Thank you

With all the talk about scholarships, I cannot help but ask when are recipients or finalists for the scholarships announced?

Does anybody know when decisions (–acceptances/denials/wait list–) come out? Thank you to whoever volunteers a response

They came out around March 26th last year

Merit scholarships will be announced with your acceptance in the portal.

the 26th is a Saturday this year and next day is Easter Sunday.

Wonder when decisions will be announced -maybe Thursday 3/24?

Just called them. They said by April 1st. Although, it will surely be before that

Just wanted to add my two cents in on the whole merit scholarships debacle. Just because someones family makes a lot, doesn’t mean they’re going to help their kids pay for college. I know someone making 150k with one kid and she flat out told her daughter she won’t pay for anything. If you earn a merit scholarship, you should get it no matter what you’re making. Of course, if you’re making 50 million a year then maybe turning it down would be great since you can clearly afford the 50k a year if your parents will be helping.

@bananafofanna - Concur. The word itself describes the Scholarship: MERIT. Why does family income have to condition it (sure, that income may have helped mold the person; yet, the work had to be done)? If the student has all the resources in place, it makes more sense that he/she will pass on the scholarship or give it to a worthy cause. BUT IT HAS TO BE HIS/HER CALL. HE/SHE EARNED IT. Makes sense?

Okay guys… scholarships or no scholarships. Wouldn’t matter if you didn’t even get in!!! So let’s focus on the big picture. Getting in looollll

Does Rice email us saying when decisions are coming out before actual decision day?

They did not send an email before ED. They just had the targeted date for decision release on the website. The results did come out early.

@asiankid88 - it matters because… say you went to VISION… you are in already. If they went the extra mile to fly you in, feed you, etc. they want you unless you find a reason not to be liked. It’s like a LL.

When do they send out the VISION stuff?

@selectyour VISION was from Feb 14-16

Looking at when rd results were released in previous years:

27 March 2015 (4th Friday)
24 March 2014 (4th Monday)
22 March 2013 (4th Friday)
23 March 2012 (4th Friday)

So it’s probably either the 4th friday or monday of march this year, which means either 21st or 25th of march. I’m placing my bets on the 25th.

For 2016 the 4th Monday is 3/28 (not 3/21)

Just a heads up for all that applied to Rice. If you don’t get in please don’t be discouraged - there are just too few spots for all the great applicants. My son applied RD last year and was wait listed (luckily got pulled off WL!!!) The reason I’m typing this is to hopefully help everyone realize that you are all great students no matter what happens with admissions. College admissions are crazy and unpredictable. My son had a 36 ACT, 800 math, 790 reading, 4.3 gpa, took 11 AP exams making 5’s on 8 of them and 4’s on other 3, 800 & 760 on subject tests, lots of leadership, volunteering, Eagle Scout, high school orchestra all 4 years, and showed all the demonstrated interest he could (campus visit, over night visit, interview, hometown admission talk, met with Rice admission officer at his high school) and was still wait listed. It truly is a crap-shoot! Hang in there and don’t put your “self worth” on any college admission decision.

So is it if you attend vision it is a likely or just getting the invitation is a likely?

@Coco345 - As an attendee I felt all along as if it was a recruiting trip. But if you receive the invite, you are probably in either way (unless you made some serious boo-boo at VISION).
